Couple In Conversation . Just a simple abstract sculpture, hope you enjoy!

Some background information about the sculptor and the original work:

JOHANNES von Stumm has spent his 18-year career as a sculptor fusing glass, metal and stone into works of “unity”. His sculpture “Couple in Conversation” has been chosen as the next landmark piece for Newbury's Town Trail project, and has been granted planning permission to be installed on the Robin Hood roundabout this summer. The piece reflects the theme of “communication”- one of a number of subjects selected by the Town Trail steering group to raise awareness of the town's heritage. The theme acknowledges the first mobile phone conversation made in the UK – between comedian Ernie Wise in London and Vodafone's Newbury offices. Johannes's sculpture depicts a couple in intimate dialogue, and when complete will stand six-metres high and be formed of 40mm-thick steel. Johannes says the idea for the sculpture was inspired by the most important communication in his life – the friendship between him and his wife. “I like to speak to her in the morning and in the evening, we exchange ideas and discuss everything that happened to us that day,” he says. “It's very important being in conversation with your partner every day if possible.” He explains that the sculpture focuses on the intimacy and “deeper love” between every-day couples. “There are so many couples in the world which will never make headlines but are together in such a close way,” he says. “I want to make a sculpture which depicts their closeness and their happiness, compared to all the stacks of magazines and newspapers which always pick on the faults and the disruption of partnerships.” Johannes has lived with his wife, Carolyn, and children in South Fawley for ten years. As well as his home studio and exhibitions, his work can also be seen in a number of public installations. Along with “Couple in Conversation”, one of his sculptures has also been commissioned for New Greenham Park's Slater Centre.
