USCGC Hamilton WIP: Flight Deck . Work in progress picture of my ongoing 1:65 scale Hamilton class US Coast Guard cutter project. . This is a WIP picture of my 1:65 Hamilton class US Coast Guard cutter project. What is shown is the flight deck, including the surrounding life net, and part of the telescoping hangar. If you're wondering how the HH-60J Jayhawk fits inside the hangar, the answer is that it doesn't. While the deck on the Hamiltons is big enough to accomodate a Jayhawk, the hangar is only large enough to fit the somewhat smaller MH-65C Dolphin (and even the Dolphin needs to collapse its rotor and tail to fit). One subtle detail that might not be immediately obvious is that the flight deck tapers slightly toward the stern, to match the tapering of hull below. Matching that shape on the main deck is going to cause some headaches, no doubt. Even worse is the fact that, for a number of reasons, I had to built the flight deck with a width that is an even number of plates, but most of the ship forward of the hangar will be an odd number of plates of width. I'm also not entirely happy with some of the details, like the hangar door and the stairs leading down to the main deck, so they are likely to change.
