Category: "Do you know how orcs first came into being?.." hehe :)
When I saw the category, I wasn't exactly sure what to do, since there are many different ways orcs came into being. Then I thought about the rest of the quote, "They were elves once, taken by the dark powers, tortured and mutilated. A ruined and terrible form of life." So I thought about doing something with Melkor. Instead, however, I went with who said it (Saruman), and what he was about to do (create new orcs of his own). So, I went with Saruman's orc forge. My creation depicts the orcs being created and them making weapons and the sort (kind-of one of last year's categories come to think of it!).
Note: I don't own the LEGOŽ Orc Forge set, and I didn't just go and copy the wench (you can see that there are differences). So please don't take off tons of points for that... because, if you think of it, people borrow other people's ideas for things, so why not borrow ideas from LEGOŽ set's?
I'll be splitting the build up into sections so the section will have photo with and without the minifigs. Fullview photos are at the end. Anyway, on to the build!
First Section: The Breeding Pits
This is where my entry fits into the category. Saruman is creating his own orcs, called the Uruk-Hai. As you can see, the orcs are digging the Uruk-hai out from the ground.
Second Section: The Chute System.
This was my favorite part of the build. The way I was able to create the angles worked out quite well. When I empty "seeds" (1x1 round plates) into it, they slide right on down without bouncing over the edges. I was even able to add a function at the top of it to cause the "rocks" to start sliding down!
Third Section: The Forge
This is where the orcs make a lot of noise. Banging all that metal into something useful. The furnace came out well, considering I could add a light-brick to it too!
Fourth Section: The Winch
This was quite difficult to make, considering how I had it being able to bring the bucket all the way up from the ground and have someone being able to grab the bucket once it's brought up. As I said before, there are differences between mine and the LEGOŽ Orc Forge set. In the end, I was quite happy how it came out.
Fifth Section: Miscellaneous
These are the parts of the build that don't fit anywhere else... Some cool things are here and there, like the ladders, support structures, rockwork, etc.
Count Dooku!?!? Isn't that supposed to be Saruman!? (Just a little joke!) :)
Sixth Section: Full Views
Yay! Some photos where you can see the whole build! I saved the best for last. Enjoy!!!
Thanks for looking! God Bless!
