ABT Optimus Prime (Based On 31005 + 31008 + 70500) (Includes Roller) . Some people say that the surprise of what you get is the best part of Christmas. This is totally bogus, as the best part is easily the giving, but I see their point. Still, it’s always good to choose at least some of your presents. There are two reasons why I see this as the truth. The first is that as you are a Lego collector, and they are not, they’ll end up buying things you probably already have, or not getting any at all and instead getting something else like more clothes or a crappy licensed Doctor Who DS game that lasts only two hours with nothing after the game. The second is a rather personal reason. Last year, the year before and the year before that, I keep getting socks from my parents (as a joke of course, because my dad always throws my old ones away if they have the slightest hole in them), and the only Lego in sight is from ‘Santa’ (the AFOLs and most TFOLs will know why it’s in quotation marks). So, this year, I decided to make everything different. I went out and chose all the presents from everyone. I used the excuse of ‘I’m achieving a new sense of maturity’ (which can get you away with a lot of things at age 15, or 16 by tomorrow). So, come Christmas day, there’s all sorts of Lego all over the place. I still haven’t solved the socks problem, though. You may be asking, however, ‘why are you telling me this?”. Well, it’s because this is how I got these sets. I chose them with this project in mind. It turned out completely different to what I had pictured, and took a lot less attempts than Night Prowler, but it’s totally cool. Anyway, enough with the introduction and onto the MOC . Optimus Prime: Owning a bada** trailer is the right of all Autobot beings. Declan: It’s not in the declaration of human rights, so I can do whatever I please. Optimus Prime: We are not even Human, therefore your rights are merely an excuse. Declan: But I AM human, and you are not. Still, you do raise a fair point. Still, I’ll consider. Optimus Prime: You’re birthday is tomorrow, therefore you must make the decision now! Declan: Don’t worry. I’m busking on Wednesday, which is two days after my birthday, to get some more cash. The Pick-A-Brick order won’t happen until then. So, my decision on whether you get your trailer or not can wait. Optimus Prime: No, it can not. Optimus Prime: If you will not make a decision now, then I will force you to do so. Wait here. Declan: Prime, what are you doing? Optimus Prime: You shall see. ROLLER! Roller drives in Optimus Prime: Autobots, ro- Declan: Wait, since when is Roller bigger than you. In fact, since when do you have Roller? Optimus Prime: Since recently, and soon the size issue won’t be the case… Declan: What the hell are you talking about? Roller driver off Declan: Prime? PRIME! Declan: Well, I guess I’d better get on with this MOC. I’m Declan Muller, and as always, ha- Loud booming footsteps fill the air Declan: Huh? Declan: What was that? Spectre, did you get drunk again? And if you’re thinking of dismantling me, then think again. Declan: I wasn’t thi- Optimus Prime: HARDWARE STORE PLASTIC GLUE! That’s how. Declan: Just wait, I wasn’t fi- Optimus Prime: Make up your mind! Declan: Well, I think while I’m running as fast as these little plastic versions of my legs can carry me, you may wish to check out the MOC I’ve prepared for you. Man, I do wish my legs were long like IRL, though… ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Before I show you the proper MOC, I’ll show you the sets I used to build it. The first one was the Ninjago set with Kai and his Mech Suit. I’ve already gotten one of them, and I managed to trade with my sister for some other Minifigures with my spare Kai. The second set is the Lego Creator ‘Construction Hauler’. I was actually going to get this for my sister, but I got her something more expensive instead. The final set is another Creator one. This one is called ‘Thunder Wings’. I thought this would be an excellent idea due to its Mecha building capabilities. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ FINALLY! We can now get this MOC underway. As always, here’s the vehicle mode to start off with. I was actually planning on having him as a more G1 style prime, but he turned out fine this way in the end. The truck mode has whiskers, which means he’s been manufactured by Cat! HA HA HA! Ah, I’m just messin with yer. A view from the back shows that a trailer cannot be added. Still, they’re pretty detailed. From the bottom, you can see that there’s virtually no kibble there. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Transformation time! The instructions aren’t too difficult. 1: Pull up the windows 2: Push them to the back. 3: Slide up the front section. 4: Twist out the arm decorations that were holding the front section in place. 5: Bring out the forearms. 6: Bring out the middle fingers. (Also, no jokes about the rude finger, people…) 7: Bring out the other fingers. Steps 8-10 will require you to change your view on the model. 8: Bend out the thumbs. 9: Rotate them to the front. 10: Split the legs. Steps 11-24 will require you to return to your original view of the model. 11: Rotate the ball joints on the sides to bring the arms up. 12: Twist those same ball joints forward. 13: Bring the arms down from the shoulders. 14: Bring the waist down. 15: Twist the legs 90 degrees inwards from the waist. 16: Twist the legs 90 degrees inwards from the knees. 17: Twist the arms 18 degrees from the shoulders. 18: Twist the decoration on the upper arms so that they face outwards. 19 and 1/2: Bring the arms up (optional). 20: Fold the front section down. 21: Fold the two small parts on the inside of the front section down. 22: Fold the front section in to reveal the chestplate. 23: Fold in the two small parts. 24: Fold up the head. The remaining steps require you to change your point of view. 25: Fold the windows down. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ After the long transformation sequence (which should have been longer considering this figure’s size), we have the majestic Optimus Prime in his robot mode! Optimus Prime looks amazing from any angle! Well, almost any angle. From the back, the head section is a little underdone. In a size comparison with some Minifigures and Microfigures, you can see just how big he is. He’s pretty close to the G1 scale and the Prime scale, but not the Bayformers scale. In a size comparison with other transformers (classic Spectre and recent Night Prowler), his size still shines through. Though, when it comes to Bitillion there’s no contest, but I never took those photos. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As a little extra, I decided to build Roller from the few remaining pieces. When I say few, I mean few useful. Sure, there were tonnes of tiles and bricks, but there were very little special bricks to use. He turned out, uh, OKAY. I tried to make him all blue, and failed. There simply weren’t enough pieces. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Time for the transformation sequence! :) 1: Bring out the arms. 2: Fold down the upper torso. 3: Fold up the lower wheels The remaining steps require you to change your point of view. 4: Bend the knees slightly. 5: Bring out the legs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ And here we have Roller in his kind-of robot mode! Another size comparison with exactly the same figures, because I’m do damn lazy to get any others. And this concludes the MOC part of this page. The rest is just bonus features… ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ What did you get for Christmas, if you celebrate it? As I said before, I chose them all this year. So, I think as a bonus feature I’ll show you what I got… The Lego sets will come first. Other than the three sets that became Optimus Prime, I got Kai’s Jet Fighter from Ninjago. I still think it looks exactly like Jay’s Fighter from wave 2. Even the gimmick’s the same, just a bit wider! The Minifigs I got for this set are really nice. I’m kinda diggin’ these new headscarves. General Cryptor has to be my fave Minifigure out of the one’s I got for Christmas. I also got the Saw-Blade-Hovercar-Truck-Thingy. Not sure what I’m supposed to call it… While I do like Cole, the Figures in this set are kinda disappointing. The Nindroid just looks underdone. My sister just re-gifted me something I bought for her six months ago. Not very much in the Christmas spirit, right? >:( But she did trade me the Minifigures I gave her from the present I gave her for my spare Kai from the Mech set and a headscarf. I’m luvin teh jetpack! I also got tonnes of non-Lego presents. I got Bravely Default, a Japanese RPG that I’ve been playing nonstop for days. From ‘Santa’ (the quotation marks again AFOLs & TFOLs), I got couple of books by the same guy who wrote Ender’s Game. I got the 1990s Doctor Who movie (special edition) and a Doctor Who 50th anniversary poster (which is on my wall, hence I cannot show it). I’m also expecting the anniversary special itself on DVD later… And finally, I got the 1/100 scale Providence Gundam! It looks epic! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this MOC. Don’t forget to like AND comment (unlike what happened with Night Prowler), and if you want add me as a fave builder. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Birthday to me (tomorrow on the 30th of December) and as always, happy building! :)
