LOM: Blades of the Black Lotus 1: Beachhead . This is the first in a series of flashback Mocs, so be sure to check out Blades of the Black Lotus 2 through however far it will go... . The Dark Queen had been through hours and hours of battering storms, strong winds, and even hail. The sail had been punctuated by the grains of Ice falling from the sky several times, and finally, the Dark Queen had to give up the battle against the ocean and find a safe place to harbor. They had found a natural harbor on a small island, a horseshoe-shaped rip into the middle of a cliff, which sloped farther inwards as it went down. For that reason, the rain could not get to them, and the small mouth of the natural harbor prevented the strong waves from coming into the harbor. Qinon strolled along the beach. It would take the crew of the Dark Queen more than an hour to fix all of those holes, possibly two. Qinon's thoughts wandered to the successful Raid on a Mythronian coastal fort yesterday morning. The capes and supplies they had found had been a lucky strike: The storm had made everybody freezing cold. The berries they had found had to be consumed fairly quickly (otherwise they would have started to rot and mold), but the crew hadn't minded that at all. The berries had been gone even before Qinon could get any. The other provisions had been stored for later, but the reality was that they would be gone by the next morning, too. Maybe fishing would be a good idea, Qinon wondered. He had no experience on the matter, but the bay would probably keep fish safe from the storm, too– Footsteps pattering through the sand behind him pulled Qinon out of his thoughts. "Qinon!, Qinonqinonqinonqi-" Qinon turned around. It was Rico, one of the three taksils who were the main fighting crew of the Dark Queen. "What?" Qinon asked. Rico stopped a moment to catch his breath. Then he said: "I was just wondering if you were known by any names other than Qinon..." Qinon was immediately alert, but he didn't show any sign of it. "Like what..." "Like... the Lost Ranger?" Qinon nodded. "Yes, some know me as the Lost Ranger." Rico nodded. "OK." Rico hurried off the way he had come. Qinon shrugged and continued his walk. But a part of his mind was still alert. Rico behavior had seemed suspicious... *** Figless. Well, that was fun! Just a short build to take my mind of my entries for three contests that I am trying to participate in all at once, with similar deadlines (Tourney, Legopolis, MELO), and some experimenting to see if I can make it look like there is sand under the water. Also practicing the inclusion of bases into my vignettes, and using a base platform that is not being used enough. That's all, but stay tuned for parts two, three, four, and maybe more of "Blades of the Black Lotus"!!! I hope you liked it.
