D.O.R.I.S . Not my first but by far my best attempt at building a mech. I present D.O.R.I.S! Defensive/Offensive Robotically Integrated System. I was inspired after seeing the trailers for Pacific Rim (Which I was lucky enough to see last night! Giant robots and monsters! Woooo!) and a pile of grey parts. I wanted D.O.R.I.S to look like a brawler. I aimed for a rounded body and large, bulky limbs. The body opens for access to the cockpit, twin blades can be flipped out next to each wrist, guns can be flipped out of each hip, the left arm holds a cannon and a grapple launcher on the back of the hand and the right arm holds a triple barrelled grenade launcher and an EMP on the back of the hand. In terms or articulation there is ball joints in each shoulder and elbow, moveable fingers and thumbs. Ratchet joints in the hips and knees and a slight waist rotation and forward and back ankle movement. Unfortunately because of D.O.R.I.S' heavy upper body, posing the legs can be a bit of a mission. I hope to address this issue in a version 2. Thanks for looking and please comment! . The triple barrelled grenade launcher works by just swinging around on a ball joint The cannon works by being moved out Spun around And pushed back in The hip guns can be flipped around into firing position The blades deploy from each wrist for close combat situations The thigh panels can open to reveal air intakes for the jet engines mounted in D.O.R.I.S' legs for accelerated kicks, assisted jumps, or slowing descent from air drops. Jetpack with adjustable fins The grapple launcher on the left hand The EMP on the right hand I'm probably most proud of the cockpit and how it opens. The cockpit opens by folding down the stomach plate and chest plates Moving the sides of the body out Opening the canopies And moving the display screens to the side Honestly this picture was better in concept than execution And to finish (and an excuse to show him off) a size comparison with YOTS Platinum Edition Omega Supreme. Thanks for looking and be sure to see Pacific Rim while it's in cinemas, it is one hell of an experience!
