A Republic at War 21: The Last Council . . (Hypori, the Separatist landing pad, immediately following the events of Chapter 19 and the issuing of Order 66) (The Jedi and Intelligence Agents stood silently as Master Boris paced in front of them, speaking with the surviving Jedi in hushed tones) Ben- You know, I'm not a Jedi, but even I feel like...something terrible just happened. Alinta- I can't believe it...all those Jedi just...gone. One minute it looks like the war is nearly over, then... (Boris walked forward solemnly to the gathered, even his usual cheerful disposition was replaced with one of mourning) Gulio- Well? Boris- It is over my friend. The Temple has fallen only a handful of Jedi managed to escape. Anakin Skywalker has joined the Sith and personally led the attack before executing the last of the Separatist leadership on Mustafar. Gulio- When I imagined how the end of the war would be...it was always more...happy than this. What do we do now? Kalin- I say we fight our way out of this! Let's take control of this factory, make a new army to challenge this new Empire! Boris- No. There has been enough death for today, and I doubt even with a droid army we could fend off the Empire for long and I would rather destroy this technology then let the Empire acquire it. Iso- Sir, we still have the remote activated bombs scattered throughout the facility. We could destroy it and say the Jedi perished in the explosion. Boris- I don't see any better solution, there's some freighters over there that we can take, I doubt the Separatists will mind anymore. Agents, it has been an honor serving with the Republic Intelligence, farewell and thank you. Kalin- And us with the Jedi, until we meet again Master Jedi. (The two groups ran off as the Kalin activated the remote controlled bombs) (The bombs flashed to life upon receiving the signal, and the facility shook as the explosives activated) (The Agents ran through the entry room, the explosions coming dangerously close to them) Kalin- Come on! The exit's right through here! Let's go! (The clone forces outside the facility looked about as the facility imploded about them) Clone Commander- Any sign of the Jedi or Captain Wire Sergeant? Blackhole Sergeant- No sir. We haven't had any contact with the Captain since they entered the facility. Clone Commander- Blast it! Those Jedi must not be allowed to escape- Blackhole Trooper- Sir! Movement detected! (The clones dropped into attack positions as the Intelligence agents ran out of the exploding doorway) Clone Commander- Hands up! Identify yourselves! Kalin- Major Kalin and Agents Iso and Ben of Republic Intelligence! (The troops dropped their guard as the Agents came out) Clone Commander- My is it good to see you sir. What went on in there? Where are the Jedi? Kalin- The blasted traitors killed Captain Wire, we managed to seal them in the main laboratory as we activated our explosives. WE shouldn't be seeing any more of them any time soon. Clone Commander- Hmm, not ideal but acceptable. Pack up troops we're done here! (On the bridge of the Valor in orbit above Hypori, Intelligence Director Meredith stared blankly out into the starry expanse, tears still stinging her eyes as Commodore Revees attempted to console her) Revees- Come now Meredith I'm sure they made it out of there alive. (Meredith remained silent) Revees- They are Jedi I- Helmsman- Commodore, freighter incoming from the planet surface! Revees- A freighter? I'll take it Helmsman. Revees- Hmm, Separatist identification, unarmed...and three lifeforms detected aboard. (The two exchanged a look as Reeved quickly deleted any record of lifeforms aboard the vessel) Clone Captain- Sir! (The Navy Security clones walked over to the Commodore and he finished the purge of the records) Clone Captain- Something wrong sir? Revees- No captain, there's no lifeforms aboard the vessel, most likely an automated departure, nothing to worry about. Clone Captain- Yes sir. Shall we prepare for departure now? Revees- Yes. Plot a course for Coruscant. This war is over. (Several hours later the Jedi arrived on Polis Massa as the last of the Jedi Council met) (Boris sighed at the sight at how few of the Jedi had actually survived the purge) Boris- I apologize for my lateness Masters. We may begin the meeting now. Shaak Ti- No need to apologize Boris, we have all been through much. Yoda- Indeed and much to discuss we have about the future of the Jedi. Obi-Wan Kenobi- Indeed, Padme has died in childbirth, delivering twins, a son and a daughter. Bail Organa has agreed to adopt Leia while I will take Luke to his relatives the Lars on Tatooine. Yoda- Hmm, key to the survival of the Jedi they are. Our duty to keep alive the teachings of the Jedi it is. Shaak Ti- Indeed. I will go to Felucia. The natives are mostly force sensitive and can be trained to resist the Empire. Bartolo- I have arranged for Onderon to be safe haven for any Jedi who survived the Purge. We can use it as a base of operations against the Empire. Desmond- I've already been in contact with some who oppose the New Order, we may have a hope of preserving the Republic yet. Yoda- Into exile on Dagobah I will go. Meditate there I will. Shaak Ti- Then it is done. This last meeting of the Jedi Council is adjourned. We know what we must do to keep the Jedi and the ideal of the Republic alive. May the Force be with all of us. (As the masters solemnly departed the chamber Boris remained behind and approached Yoda) Yoda- Hmm, Something on your mind Master Boris, there is? Boris- Yes Master. I just cannot comprehend how this could have happened. I felt for sure when the Yond'Ull twins defeated Darth Vulnero that Balance was restored to the Force. But now...now Ban-Kazi, the twins...they are all gone. Yoda- A destiny in mind the Force, it has for all of us. Balance, after the death of Darth Vulnero for a time came and destiny of Ban-Kazi and the Yond'Ull fulfilled it was. Remember the Jedi Code do you? Boris- Yes Master. "There is no death, there is the Force," I think I understand now. Yoda- Good. A last act this Council to do we have. (Gulio and Alinta walked into the chamber) Gulio- You called for us Masters? Boris- Indeed. In light of your exemplary performance and due to a lack of current Jedi Masters, I officially promote you to the rank of Jedi Master. Yoda- Congratulate you two I do. Carry on the Jedi teachings you must. Alinta- Master this is such an honor we will not let you down. Boris- I know you will not. That is why you were chosen. We a a monumental task ahead of us but it is up to us to carry on the legacy of the Republic, (Boris activated his blade) Boris- And remind the Empire that we are Jedi. -Author’s Notes- Here it is the final chapter of A Republic at War! First off a huge thank you to all who have been following the series and rating and commenting on the chapters.
