A Republic at War 15: A Dark Discovery . . (Fondor 3 days after the events of Chapter 14)
(Jedi Master Boris Yakerno out of the window of the small Republic compound the light pouring in seemingly in contrast with the dark discovery he was about to reveal to the council members gathered)
(Temple Security Chief Master Desmond Ortu cleared his throat loudly bringing Boris back out of his short reprieve)
Desmond- Well, were you planning on making us wait all day Boris, all I see is a pile of scrap in front of me.
(Boris sighed, before the war a discovery like this would have warranted the attention of the entire Jedi Council, but now there were barely any left as it was)
Boris- Just as soon as the others arrive and then we will begin.
Bartolo- Remember to be patient Master Ortu, if Master Boris says it is important then I will trust that it is.
Voice- Excuse me, are we late?
Boris- Ah, look who finally decided to come!
(Jedi Masters Shaak Ti and Harash Soru walked into the room)
Boris- Well, it is good to see you again my friend! How have you been?
Harash Soru- Not well, my friend, I'm afraid the war is taking a toll on all of us.
Shaak Ti- Indeed, we came as soon as we heard you were alive Master Boris, you gave us all quite a scare.
Boris- I hope you'll find yourself able to forgive me, but once you see what I've found I think you'll understand.
Desmond- Alright, now what exactly makes this droid so important Boris.
Boris- I will explain Chief. I found this droid while on Nar Shadda searching for Mr. Fitze. What makes it special are two things: First the droid is made of cortosis.
Bartolo- Cortosis? Impossible! The Republic has outlawed that for centuries!
Desmond- Indeed, cortosis is the only material in the galaxy resistant to a lightsaber, there's nowhere in the Republic you can get the stuff.
Boris- True, but this the Confederacy we are dealing with after all. Secondly this droid is programmed with advanced knowledge of Jedi fighting styles. It was able to deflect and resist everything I threw at it. Only a handy ion blaster allowed me to capture it.
Boris- In short, it seems the Confederacy has manufactured a droid to specifically designed to hunt and kill Jedi.
Harash Soru- It all makes perfect sense. Without Jedi...the Republic would be doomed.
Bartolo- This adds a completely new aspect to this war, if the Separatists can-
(Suddenly sound of whirring circuitry came from the droid as it quickly sat up)
Harash Soru- Um, is it supposed to be doing that Boris?
Boris- Yes, but not when deactivated.
(With lightning speed the droid produced an electrostaff and lunged at Harash Soru)
Desmond- Boris! Do something!
Boris- Don't destroy it Hara! We won't learn anything from a pile of scrap!
(The other Jedi jump into action as Boris makes his way across the room)
Boris- I'll deactivate it from a remote computer sensor I installed, don't harm it!
(Desmond leaps onto the table, the droid quickly moving to parry his attack)
Desmond- Your concern for us is touching Master Boris!
(Bartolo unleashes a force blast at the droid which quickly ducks beneath it)
Bartolo- Blast! Not even the Force works on it!
Desmond- Enough of this nonsense!
(With the droid distracted by Bartolo's attack, Desmond leaps knocking it down and impaling it)
Boris- No! Master Desmond, now we may never learn who is making these droids or-
Harash Soru- Wait Boris, look!
(A holo-projection leaped up from the droid's optical receptor revealing a Skakoan and a cyborg-human busy looking at a computer screen)
Dr. Rastem- ...and readjust the-
Klav Shakoa- Doctor, something has happened, look!
Boris- Why hello there, may I help you?
Dr. Rastem- Hmm, status of Unit 18 - Terminated. Subjects identified as Boris Yakerno, Harash Soru, Duke Bartolo, Desmond Ortu, and Shaak Ti all Jedi Masters. Excellent. Add information on fighting styles to the memory banks.
Desmond- Who are you and why are you manufacturing these droids! Answer me at once!
Dr. Rastem- I'm afraid that you are in no position to be demanding anything of me Jedi. Also you may cease at your futile attempts to track this transmission. I am on Hypori if you wish answers you may come. That is all Jedi.
(With that the transmission ceased and the Jedi gathered around that table)
Boris- Hypori, that planet is deep in Separatist space and a major battle droid manufacturing world.
Shaak Ti- Indeed, its also where we first encountered General Grievous. But why would he tell us where he's located?
Desmond- It's obviously a trap, they've probably got legions of those things just waiting for us!
Harash Soru- But can we afford not to go? It seems we have no choice but to spring this trap.
Boris- Then it we have not choice. We must go to Hypori, the fate of the Jedi depends upon us.
