2012 MO Round 4 : Tom Remy Vs Giovanni Seynhaeve – How to become a pirate! . My entry for the 2012 MocOlympics Round 4 . The link to the 2012 MocOlympics… And to Gio’s excellent entry. Good luck, mate! "A pirate's life for me: Build a scene showing pirates doing what pirates do. Are they having a swash buckling battle with another vessel on the high seas? Drunken nights at the port town? Ransacking a small coastal village? Show us your best pirate scene!" Ok, I was on holiday this week, so this is REALLY big… It’s actually my biggest MOC to date! Credits must be given to the 80’s game “The Secret Of Monkey Island” by LucasArts, itself inspired by the Disneyworld attraction POTC - waaay before the film, and to a lot of pirates MOCs here on the ‘pages… Hope you’ll enjoy both the build and the story! * * * “My name is Englebert Sinkalot. I inherited a sugar canes plantation from my parents a year ago, and it has already got me bored to death! I have always known I was born for adventure, so I sold everything, got me a boat and set sail to Pariah Island. It is said that the worst scum who ever sailed the Seven Seas gather there to feast and hide their booty. It’s also the right place to learn how to become a pirate… A week later, somewhere in the Caribbean Sea, aboard the proud “Crimson Nutshell”… “If I’m correct, the island must be very close…” “Yes, I can see it!” “Full speed ahead!” It was late in the afternoon when I cast anchor in Pariah Harbour. Not one living soul… …Almost. “Hello?... Hello!?! I wanna be a pirate!” “Hum… maybe I should try the tavern…” Pirates rushing out: “Hey! who’s that lil’ monkey, dressed like a prince?” “Hello, my name is Engelbert Sinkalot and I wanna be a pirate!” “…” “HAAAAHAHAHAHAARGH!!!” (They laugh.) “So you wanna be a pirate, uh?” “Look at’is pretty face!!” “What’s’is name, again?” Engelbert: “Well, is that possible? Please?” A very menacing pirate stepped towards me. His breath smelled of mass grave. “First, you need to beat one of us… It’ll be me, Captain Jack Sorrow! En garde!” Jack: “C’mon!! You fight like a teenage girl!” Engelbert: “At least I’m not a rotten piece of meat on two feet!” Jack: “Good! A real pirate must fight back with’is tongue as well!” Jack: “But i’ll show you what a piece o’meat can do!...” Jack: “The hook-trick!” ** Shling! ** Engelbert: “Uh-oh…” Jack: “You still think you’re pirate material?” Engelbert: “Yeap!” ** Splash! ** Engelbert: “So, what’s the next trial?” Jack: “Hang on, ship’s boy!” Jack: “Here’s your blade. Captain Blue Rackham will take care of you. Me I need to warm up a bit…” Jack: “Innkeeper! RUM!” Rackham: “Ok, lil’ macaque! It’s time for… THE CANNON TEST!” Rackham: “You must fire this cannon without fear!” Engelbert: “Er… What should I be afraid of??” Rackham: “It’s old cannon… You have 10 percent chance to lose a hand…” Jack: “10 percent? Let’s do it!” Rackham: “…But you have 60 percent chance to end up dead, HAHAHAARGH!!” Engelbert: “Ok… Lord have mercy…” ** Shhh… ** ** KA-BLAM!!! ** Rackham: “…Well done boy!! But who put a cannonball in it?!?” Pirate Phipson: “That’d be me! Sounded like a good idea…” Engelbert: “Oh no!” ** Blub blub blub… ** Engelbert: “There goes the Crimson Nutshell…” Rackham: “At least we know you can aim…” Evening grew as we headed back to the harbour… Jack: “Your next task is very simple: you must find a treasure on the island before sunrise! Here’s a shovel.” Engelbert: “’You kidding me? And I don’t get anything else to find it?” Rackham: “You get that torch too. Good luck, Lil’ macaque!” Engelbert: “Er… Thank you?” Jack: “Meet us at the tavern when you’re done! Better not fail on this one!” Rackham: “And beware of cannibals too!!” Engelbert: “Ah…” Engelbert: “Those woods are big… A little creepy too…” Engelbert: “A fire? Maybe someone can direct me…” Engelbert: “Wait… Is that… A HUMAN BONE?!?” Engelbert: “ARGH!!!” Cannibal: “Hoogah!” Engelbert: “Me c-c-come in peace… Me j-j-just looking for treasure…” Cannibal: “Hoogah! What a strange and primitive way to express yourself, dear sir… How can I help you?” Engelbert: “Help me? Don’t you mean “eat me”?” Cannibal: “There are not enough fresh people to eat on Pariah Island, so we became vegetarians. The bones are for the pig… Instead, we moved into the tourism. Would you like a postcard? An engraved shell? Only two doubloons each!” Engelbert: “I don’t have money, but I have this magic needle… And no thanks, I just want a treasure!” Cannibal: “Treasure, treasure… They ALL want treasures! You’re in luck, we have ONE left! I will ignore the implied insult and accept your – hum – compass as a payment.” “Bring the chest!” Two other not so primitive men arrived, holding a heavy chest. Cannibals: “Hoogah!” Cannibals: “Thanks again! Talk about us to the other tourists!” Engelbert: “Well, that was easy…” I came back to the tavern just before midnight… Rackham: “So you’re back! And with a chest it seems!! JACK!! COME HERE YOU DRUNKARD!” Engelbert: “TA-DA!!” Jack: “Not bad… Not bad at all! Here Racky, your rum!” Rackham: “Thanks. Let’s get inside now! It’s time for the LAST TRIAL!” Phipson: “Come in, I’ve got three more barrels of rum!” Jack: “Yeah… RUM!!” The air was filled with smoke, rum vapours and loud pirates’ voices and laughs. Jack: “Sit down Angel-bird! And have a RUM!!” Engelbert: “It’s Engelbert actually… And no thanks, I don’t drink alcohol…” Phipson: “If you don’t drink, you don’t belong here. Since you sank your own ship, leaving would prove problematic… I suggest you to drink.” Monkey: “Ooh! ah! ook!” Rackham: “You’re both talkin’ gold! Anyway you don’t have a choice, macaque… This is your last test!” Jack: “Now DRINK!!!” Engelbert: ** Gulp-gulp-gulp…** Rackham: “So??” Engelbert: “That tastes f-f-funny…” Engelbert: “And hot!…” ** Blast off ** Engelbert: “WAAAAAARGHHH!!!” ** BAM! ** Jack: “Congratulations boy!! Now you are a real pirate!! It’s time to become a man, Mwa-ha-ha! Go upstairs into the last room and… wait!” Jack: “AND GOOD NIGHT!!” All: “HAAAAHAHAHAHAARGH!!!” Engelbert: “Ok, now that I’m a pirate, I must be brave!...” Later… Engelbert: “Maybe I should have stayed in my sugar canes plantation…” ** Knock-knock ** Engelbert: “C-c-come in…” “C’mon, into my arms you little monkey! It’s time to be a man!” THE END * * * A few random shots… The MOC is divided into three modules, because my table is very small… Easier to carry around too! My very vintage power source. I can’t believe all the lamps still work!! Commentary : I’d like to thank Marie for supplying lots of ideas to me (the creek and waterfall! she built the burning logs!...) and helping me sorting and dismantling my previous entry. And my friend Olive for giving me his old Lego pirates a few months ago… Thanks dude! This started as a tavern, with a little harbour (the central section). Soon I decided to add lights, and so came the idea of the fire in the forest… I obviously needed a second section, and a place to search for the treasure! Oh no… I mean oh YES!!! A that very moment, I realized I had so much to build that I could add a quick third section, like a cape or something… As usual, when I saw the size of the MOC, I felt it needed something… Wait… A pirate scene without a boat?!? In brief, it became this MOC. I hope it awoke the child in you as it did for me! Thanks everyone for viewing and especially the judges! Good luck to all round 4 contestants! Please rate and comment… See ya!
