Why?
RGM-79 Powered GM . A specially designed upgrade to the GM Ground Type mobile suit. . In response to performance complaints about the GM Ground Type, the General Dynamics engineers went back to the drawing board to come up with a suitable replacement. To be able to address the complaints without having to design a new frame, the decision was made to strip down an RGM-79 (G) GM Ground Type and start from scratch. The resulting project was the Powered GM. After boosting the reactor power output considerably, the engineers were able to add a bigger boosted mobility system and higher armor capacity. After assessing field performance of other similar mobile suits, they focused the additional armor around the cockpit/reactor zones and the knees of the GM. After all the upgrades, the Powered GM managed to nearly double the performance of most current-gen mobile suit platforms. Able to field any current weapon system, it is most commonly deployed with a 20mm machine gun, beam saber, and combat shield.
