Pompeii . On August 24, 79 A.D. a volcano named Mt. Vesuvius erupted. The eruption was estimated to be 10 times stronger than the eruption of Mt. Saint Helens in the United States on May 18, 1980. In fact, the power of the volcano is compared to that of a nuclear bomb! Nearby, a Roman city in western Italy named Pompeii would be buried under ashes for 1,500 years. . This is my second historical and micro-scale MOC. Enjoy! The city of Pompeii. I did my best to create micro buildings that would resemble Roman architecture. The city was an important port for trading with places such as Egypt and Spain. Therefore, it lay near the ocean This area was the most difficult part to build. I ran into several typical SNOT problems. Due to the fact of an extraordinary pressure that had been building in Mt. Vesuvius, when it erupted, the force shot great amounts of ashes and magma, the substance that makes up lava. There was no lava, but tons of ashes rained down on Pompeii at the rate of 6 inches per hour for the next couple of hours. My build is partially inaccurate. Mt. Vesuvius was actually lush and green contrary to the black and gray bricks I used to display it. It was a hidden peril. Around 2,000 residents would perish and be buried. There bodies would become 3D casts. In fact, there are pictures today where you can see the forms in which the people perished. Due to complications of 1/2 plate gaps and all the problems in building in SNOT, this was the only solution I came up with in connecting the city to the rest of the build. MOC by Lego Builder Senior
