World Trade Center - Progress Journal 1 . World Trade Center - Progress Journal 1. Re-building the towers... brick by brick. . HELLO EVERYBODY! Pedro Peguero here, with an introduction to my new big project. The World Trade Center, but specifically the Twin Towers. I have been pondering on this idea for quiet some time, but finally, building has begun on September 21 of last year (2011).
I am currently building them as a tribute, and to show a time scale between the OLD and the NEW. Thats right everyone, not only am I making the Twin Towers, but also the Twin Towers Memorial, AND the Freedom Tower (All on HUGE scales). If everything goes according to plan, I should have the 3 models complete or nearly finished by September 11, 2012. I have decided to make these towers on a huge scale, ranging from 6-7 feet high, and I hope these towers will be displayed somewhere, as I am making them in segments for easy transportation.
I have went through many, and I mean MANY SHIP concepts and ideas, but this idea I decided to stick with until completion. I am hoping to get this project out to the masses, and become something huge. Sure many people have decided to make the towers here on MOCpages, but I am trying to accomplish more detail, better brick alignment, and more structural and realistic looks to them. Enjoy the pictures =]
Here is the main lobby of Tower 1. I have decided to actually build the lobbies in each tower, and make little details such as elevators and staircases.
Here you can get a closer picture of what I am trying to accomplish with details. In this picture, you can see the various staircases and small detail on the main floor, and a pair of elevators on the top! (still in progress, 99.8% completed =P )
I made a 4 floor lobby, and from this view you can see even more detail of staircases and the main floor. The middle of the floor will be a beam going upwards that will help support the tower. When finished, this beam wont be visible from the outside, and it will be covered with gray bricks to match the floors, instead of white ones.
Here is a picture showing from outside Tower 1. I have been stuck with MANY, and trust me, MANY design flaws, concepts, drawings, etc, but finally, I hit the right spot and constructed the perfect support for the tower. I made 4 beams on each corner shooting upwards, and each beam will be needed to make sure the tower stands firm and upright, and can support the exterior.
The outside of the tower is supported by many, many small fork like beams shooting upward and making a line window effect when viewed from a distance. This has been a challenge, and with the real Twin Towers, there were about 50-75 OF THESE SMALL FORK BEAMS ON EACH SIDE! Even though my scale is huge, I am not making mini-figure scale (haha! Imagine?!). So I decided to stick with 4 fork beams on each side of the tower, totaling in about 32 fork beams for both towers. Even with 4 beams on each side, It will still give the real look of the towers when completed. Detail is a biggy, and even though the interior of Tower 1 is finished, the exterior still has a TON of work!
A quick picture of fork beams that are currently being made. I need to order more pieces, so at the moment they will lay un-completed =[
Detail, detail, detail... Did I mention detail? Call me crazy, but these are a lot of transparent lego plates that will be lined up on each side of both towers going upward 6-7 feet for the EXACT glass like window effects. With the fork beams overlaying the windows, It will have a dark black look to the windows, making them dark, and looking tinted. I have decided to maybe, just maybe, add LEDs INSIDE the towers, and make the windows emit light as if the building is alive. I still don't know how I am going to tackle this idea, but it has been taken into thought before. These pieces alone are extremely rare on bricklink, and the quantities I need are about 700+. With prices going on about 30 cents a piece, It will take about 200-300 $ worth of these pieces for just ONE tower. Oh economics.. Please God, may I win the Lotto? BRICK HEAVEN!!!!
Finally, here is Tower 2. As you can see, there is still a lot of work to be put into this tower, and I am planning to finish the lobby portion this week. I am trying to make both lobbies different, as in real life, they were. It will take a little bit of creativity to add this lobby in, but I am confident that this tower will be on par with Tower 1 in no time.
There you go my fellow MOCer's. My first progress journal of this project I have been on work on since September 2011. Even though it may not look like much with the time I had with it, but since school is coming to an end, and summer is around the corner, I will be putting more time into these towers, and my other LEGO interests as well.
RE-BUILDING THE TWIN TOWERS.. BRICK BY BRICK.
Catch you guys later! Add me to your favorite builders to keep up with my journals and other creations. Give this MOC and comment and a rating too! - Pedro
HERE IS THE VIDEO REVIEW OF IT! PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT IT FROM A BETTER PERSPECTIVE!
EDIT: ON MY COMPUTER THE PICTURES LOOK GRAINY FROM VIEWED ON THIS PAGE DIRECTLY. PLEASE, CLICK THE IMAGE TO BE LARGER TO GET A CLEARER PICTURE! MY CAMERA TOOK THE PICTURE IN HUGEEEE DIMENSIONS, SO MOCPAGES HAD TO KINDA COMPRESS THEM TO BE VIEWED ON THE PAGE!
