Junkers EF-1000 “Thor”
The Junkers EF-1000, nickname “Thor”, was a single-seat, three-engine, all-weather, long-range supersonic jet interceptor fighter/fighter-bomber originally developed for the Luftwaffe by Junkers.
The Thor was a medium fighter with a top speed of over Mach 2.3. It could carry over 5,000 kg of weapons on eight external hardpoints, including air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles, and various bombs. The EF-1000, different of other interceptors of its time, was designed with a heavy armament of cannons, 4 20mm Mauser MG-213 cannons in the fuselage and 2 30mm MK-108 cannons under the wings.
Beginning in 1955, it set 15 world records, including an absolute speed record, and an absolute altitude record.
