X-16 Condor of the "81st Top Hats" unit, Ganymede sector . "Good glayven it's big mmhoy"... . This minifig scale megafighter started off as an attempt to build a Chris Foss spaceship design called the Moonbeast (which would've been microscale). I was determined to build my first S.H.I.P. (Seriously Huge Investment in Parts, 100 studs long) and by mixing white and red parts in a chequer pattern I could maximise my inventory. Or so I thought: the process took so long (small bursts of building spread out over many weeks) that, thanks to my short attention span, I grew bored and wanted to change the style of spaceship I was building. So over time it evolved from a microscale battlecruiser to a minifig scale interceptor. Half way through I toyed with the idea of deliberately making the SHIP look half-built, still in the contruction yard, using orange girder pieces. But I wanted a finished model, so I pressed on, still keeping that 1970s sci-fi look with the severe straaright lines and garish colours found in Foss' artwork. In the end I gave up trying the reach the magical 100 stud threshold, I think the Condor is about 90 studs or so. Some WIP shots: My initial idea trying the chequer pattern: "Can you DIG IT?!" At first the wings were angled but I ditched them in favour of good old fashioned right angles! Here's my dog Foxy coming to see why I'm not playing fetch with her... 1/2 of my Brickvention models I displayed. More pics of that coming soon hopefully (there's A LOT!!)
