2010 Seagrave Marauder II Tower Ladder . This is a 2010 Seagrave Marauder II Tower Ladder with a 1978 Baker Aerialsccope 75 foot boom. This boom was remounted from its original 1978 Mack CF chassis. . The Aerialscope telescoping boom was introduced in 1964. The first models were 75 foot models. Later a 95 foot version was introduced in 1985. Early Aerialscopes were mounted on the Mack Model C chassis. When the Mack CF Model was introduced Aerialscopes were mounted on these. The first MackCF/Baker Aerialscope went to Bedford, Ohio, in 1970. After the end of production of the Model CF in 1990, Seagrave and FWD custom chassis were used. In 1999 Seagrave purchased Baker Engineering. Today, the Seagrave Marauder II Chassis is used for the Aerialscope II. Aerialscope tower ladders are among the most durable firefighting tools ever. Some Mack CF Aerialscopes are serving their third fire department and some are in their third decade of front line fire service. Many other Aerialscopes have been remounted on new chassis after long service lives on their original chassis. Part of the reason for the success of the Aerialscope is the fact that the four section boom basically is a crane. A four section ladder on top of the boom is designed for emergency egress only. Mid-ship mounted Aerialscope tower ladders maybe most recognized for their service with the FDNY. However, departments, large and small, across the county operate tower ladders. For example, of the 340 tower ladders delivered between 1970 and 1987, 155 went to the FDNY and 185 went to other departments. BFD552@Gmail.com
