Miller Park Version 8 . Miller Park Version 8: Landscaping & Detailed Service Level . Lego Miller Park Version 8: Current Model
This model is the latest version of a personal long standing project. To get more history on this project please click HERE to learn about it from the beginning.
After utilizing MLCad to plan one last set of major changes it was time to temporarily take Miller Park off display to implement them. I removed the model from display at MSOE's Walter Schroeder Library and began changes on Saturday October 24th, 2010. Since I was working around my work schedule, I had all the bricks I thought I needed and began construction on the key feature, landscaping, before I even had the model back. I finished the model just in time for display at TrainTime 2010 at MSOE. Due to tight time constraints and software problems I only partially updated the MLCad model and thus don't have an accurate updated parts count for Version 8. My estimated brick count would be 35,000 with a Lego brick value of $7,500.
Version 8 includes the following changes:
Complete landscaping and building surroundings within the current model footprint
Addition of tile to entire building roof surface for smoother roof operation and easier dusting
Addition of ~30 working Lego concourse lights so building hallways and visible detailed rooms light up
Expansion of the "LED" panels between the Loge and Terrace Levels
Added Service Level rooms
Added Fire Protection piping and sprinklers
Two additional powered Mindstorms for enhanced lighting and more accurate roof control (Model now has 6 Mindstorms total)
I believe the resulting Version 8 model is the best Miller Park representation I can create with the size limitations I have. I have no future plans to update the model with the exception of the scoreboard and repairing a Mindstorm electrical lighting overload.
Current Display Information
The model was recently moved to the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory in downtown Louisville, Kentucky located at 800 W. Main Street Zip 40202. It will be on display in the main gallery from March 2, 2013 to September 2, 2013 for the exhibit "Big Leagues, Little Bricks." The roof will be operated 2-3 times daily at the discretion of Nathan, the museum curator. Please check back for updates on this exciting display.
Future Display Information
In mid September 2013, following the Louisville Slugger display, the model will return to MSOE's Walter Schroeder Library at 500 E. Kilbourn Milwaukee, WI 53202.
Past Display Information
Due to repeated requests and disappointment from not being at TrainTime 2009, the model reappeared at TrainTime 2010 at MSOE on March 6th and 7th. The newly revised model proved to be a big hit once again and drew consistent onlookers.
A fellow student in my MSOE Senior Design class told someone at the Milwaukee Art Museum about my model and I was called about a display. The model was displayed at the Milwaukee Art Museum on Friday 2/11/2011 from 5pm to midnight as part of the "MAM After Dark: Mr. Wright" event. Waves of people stopped by to see the model and all were impressed. This event also proved how beneficial carts can be; I don't foresee moving the model again without one! While I don't have any Lego projects in the works, I plan to create a model of this museum at some point in the future.
The model reappeared at MSOE's TrainTime 2011 on March 5th and 6th. It drew constant attention even though it was the same model shown in 2010. Using a newly purchased cart proved to be a big back saver once again. I have no idea why I didn't think about that sooner!
In December 2010 I was approached by an MSOE professor about helping create a Lego Leaning Tower of Pisa. I lent some of my Legos to the MSOE Architectural Engineering Institute student group to create a mock up for the model. This was done so they could determine the type and quantity of new bricks to buy. While my involvement with the Leaning tower project was minimal, I was invited to display at the Italian Community Center and Festa Italiana as a result. The model was displayed at the Italian Community Center at 631 E. Chicago St Milwaukee, WI 53202 prior to Festa Italiana 2011.
Following the Italian Community Center display, the model was moved to Festa Italiana July 21st to 24th 2011 as part of the Piazza di Lego. Unfortunately, I was only able to attend the event on Friday of the Fest but being able to show the model to another diverse crowd was a great experience. After kids were done being amazed with the Lego Leaning Tower model and Miller Park they were able to particapte in Lego building and contests set up by the ICC.

Milwaukee Art Museum (2/10/2011 to 2/12/2011)
I left half the case off during this display since I was present and the crowd was easier to handle compared with other events. Spectators appreciated getting a better look inside.
It was really hard to miss the model in the surrounding whiteness of this great Milwaukee landmark.
TrainTime 2011 (3/4/2011 to 3/8/2011)
It was great talking to new and returning guests. This show marked the third anniversary the model was on display.
Italian Community Center (6/16/2011 to 7/16/2011)
The model was hard to miss due to it's location right next to the main entrance and main banquet hall. The skirt proved to be a nice addition.
Festa Italiana (7/16/2011 to 7/25/2011)
It was great speaking to the waves of people that heard about the Leaning Tower of Pisa or my Miller Park Model. Everyone was impressed with both models but loved the fact Miller Park moved!
Note the green signs on the side of the model. They contained a list of interesting things that could be found in the model and added another dimension of interest. Many people took the time to find all of the items of interest and found things they wouldn't have noticed with a quick look.
