NXT robot: The White Duck . I built a robotic duck (scale 1:1), which looks and behaves like a real duck. My White Duck is able to walk around by herself and she lays eggs in her nest! But is she clever enough to keep them….? . To build the White Duck I used Lego NXT, Technic bricks and also ordinary bricks and slopes. Video: The duck family and the bad rat White Duck info You can find white ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) all over the world. They live in ponds, marshes, lakes and ditches. When the Duck build her nest she lays 8 till 10 eggs. She needs 4 weeks to hatch them out. The natural enemy from the Duck is the rat. He steals eggs from the Duck nest to eat them. Duck design To make my robot looks like a real duck I made photo’s from ducks in my street. I printed a few photos in scale 1:1. I used these photos to make the right silhouette. Duck technology When you make a robotic animal it’s important that she reacts to her neighbourhood and other animals. So I used a ultrasonic sensor to give my Duck “eyes”. With this sensor the Duck is able to avoid objects. With a color sensor my Duck can see dangerous places which are marked yellow. With the same sensor the Duck can follow the blue line which brings her to her nest. When she finds her nest she lays her eggs. To let my Duck interact with other animals I work together with Egol Vuurzoon. He made a rat which steals the eggs from the duck nest. Luckily there where two eggs hatched out. I built these two duck chickens with Lego power functions. For more info about these animals, see the links below. Technical features include: 1. moving random at variable speeds. 2. avoiding objects with ultrasonic "eyes". 3. returns when crashed into object, to set it selves free. 4. avoids dangerous area's marked by yellow line. 5. creates random real duck sounds as recorded. 6. is searching for her nest to lay her egg (following blue line) 7. lay a egg when she has found her nest. controlled by motor A 8.White Duck shape & looks sculptured with Lego bricks; mainly white plates, bricks and slopes 9. Built in modules for easy access (battery change, modifications, repairs). I hope you enjoy my duck. Kind regards, Anika Vuurzoon Links: For the other animals watch these links: - The Little Ducks - The Brown Rat
