8860 - A Classic Reborn . The vintage 8860 car chassis set is a wonderful thing - it deserves front suspension and some sort of body.. . Any fan of 1980s Technic will tell you how great the 8860 is... but it's not perfect. I decided to update it a bit with new features. This is not 100% MOC but I hope you don't mind. Anyhow, I have given it a double wishbone front suspension with smoother acting steering with a steering wheel that manages to be closer to the middle of the seat. I've also rearranged the reinforcement of the rear end to find room for a pair of folding '+2' rear seats. There is a little more detail in the dashboard/centre console area and the front seat backs are shapelier and shorter and they've gained sliding headrests. And just what have Lego got against rear bumpers? (with the honourable exception of the even more ancient 853). My version has one. Here you see the two versions together. Mine is the same size in track/wheelbase and overall length. So here we have the chassis of a compact and sporty 4 seater with a flat four engine slung out back... sounds like a Porsche 356.. aka THE CURVIEST CAR EVER MADE * . Even the suspension layout is the same (wishbones/swing axles).. Sorry to disappoint but you'd need to be some sort of Firas to make that work - this is getting a sketchy, angular style to retain some flavour of the classic Lego kits. What? No opening doors? People make 4-wides with opening doors, for christsakes.. rigidity is my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Well, the bonnet opens to show off the front suspension.. very strong and effective. Now even I know that boot is opening the wrong way.. In order for the two piece folding roof to nestle on top of the engine. It clears the fan by less than a millimetre. Interior views.. the centre console has a little cubbyhole and an ever-so-useful TV, the dash has three dials and the gearbox is as much of a pig to use as it ever was... Together; one original, one better(maybe). Tell me what you think. OK, I had to try : http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/275626 Thanks for looking!
