Halo ODST Characters . Orbital Drop Shock Troopers Buck, Dutch, Mickey, Romeo, Dare, and the Rookie, now in LEGO minifig form! . First posted February 2010.
New video games seem to come out every week to me, and I never get a
chance to play them. Take Halo 3: ODST for example. It seems like it
came out just a few weeks ago, and I barely finished it a few days ago.
In fact it's been much longer, but regardless, here are the minifigs.
Out of date as usual. At this rate I should have my Mass Effect 2
characters up by 2011.
NOTE:
All decals (stickers) are by me. Most of my decals are for sale at my
site:

Most of the guns are from
Brickarms. If you
decide to place an order there, let 'em know Saber-Scorpion sent
ya!
Romeo's goggles are from
Brickforge. If
you decide to place an order there, let 'em know Saber-Scorpion
sent ya!
Finally, please excuse the awful photos. I was not at my usual location
and had limited resources to work with.
A closer look at the Rookie, our heroic mute protagonist, as compared
with his McFarlane action figure. The armor is a little greenish, but
that's hard to convey in LEGO so I did the best I could on the armored
areas of the decals. The Rookie's only known name is 11282-31220-JD (JD
for John Doe) because he's a freakin' robot or Borg or something. He
can't give voice to his thoughts because he's so used to talking through
a network in the Collective. It's spooky.
This guy is Mal... err, I mean Buck. Or Gunnery Sergeant Edward Buck
(Service Number 92458-37017-EB) if you ask the fanboys.
He's totally the coolest character in the game and if you even have to
ask why then you really need to go catch a
Firefly. Also he's got a knife. The only way he could be cooler
(besides his armor being red instead of boring grey) is if he could
actually use the knife in-game, like some kind of special backstab
ability. I think all the characters should have special abilities. The
Rookie's would be boring the enemy to death because HE'S BORING.
This guy is Nathan Drake... err, I mean Romeo. Or Kojo "Romeo" Agu
(Service Number 14606-85099-KA) if you ask the fanboys.
He's the team's Black Guy played by a white dude (Nolan North, king of
all video game voices) doing a deep voice. You can tell he's the team's
sniper because he's kinda got those cool goggles on top of his head.
Like Mal's knife, they are not actually usable, although they should be
(maybe to make every weapon have a zoom feature). He's actually one of
the more interesting characters in the game since he seems to have the
closest buddy relationship to Mal.
This guy is Jayne... err, I mean Dutch. Or Corporal Taylor H. "Dutch"
Miles (Service Number 21175-12121-TM) if you ask the fanboys.
He's the second coolest character right behind Mal, just like in
certain other things. I mean, just check out his armor. He might as
well have spray painted the word "badass" all over it instead. I don't
know why they didn't base his face on Adam Baldwin's instead of making
him this scruffy ugly dude, but I guess you can't have everything... Oh,
and his special ability should be extra ammo storage or something since
he's got all those pouches.
This guy is Wash... err, I mean Mickey. Or Michael "Mickey" Crespo
(Service Number 51033-15973-MC) if you ask the fanboys.
He's probably the second most boring character right after
what's-his-name, the one that doesn't talk. Also, I know Alan Tudyk is
weird looking but he still isn't as weird looking as Mickey, so he's
represented here by a generic LEGO head that kinda has a communicator on
it. Hope you don't mind. Mickey's role in the squad is to talk to Dutch
so that you get to hear Jayne's voice, and who doesn't want to hear
Jayne's voice? Jayne is awesome.
This gal is Number Six... err, I mean Dare. Or Captain Veronica Dare of
the Office of Naval Intelligence if you ask the fanboys.
She's actually one of the cooler characters in the game, and it's about
time one of the Halo games featured a flesh-and-blood woman in a role
other than "pincushion" (see Miranda Keyes). Also she must be awesome
because SHE CAN HAZ RECON. Her voice actress, Tricia Helfer, is the
Leading Lady of Sci-Fi right now, I swear. She's now been in Battlestar
Galactica, Halo, Mass Effect 2, and soon will voice none other than
Sarah Kerrigan, Queen of the frakkin' Zerg. Holy crap! Next thing
you know JJ Abrams will cast her as Nurse Chapel and the voice of the
Enterprise, and then no one will ever be able to dethrone her.
The only LEGO I had with me when taking these photos were the ODSTs
themselves and this here Brute, so I wanted to give you an action shot
of perhaps the coolest fight in the game: the cutscene where Mal goes
all Dustin Echoes on a Brute with his knife.
No, seriously, I had Dustin Echoes kill a brute in exactly this same
way, while wearing ODST armor no less, in my Halo fan fic. Great, now I
sound like a total nerd picking his nose and going "Bungie... they read
my fan fictions! I AM NOT WORTHY!"... Anyway, I thought it was cool.
Final shot of the whole team in their helmets. Oh, and to sum up my
opinion of Halo ODST: great atmosphere, fun game, but way too short. The
story ends JUST when it's starting to get interesting. Here's hoping for
a sequel, because I'd be way more excited about that than I am for
Reach.
