The Epitome of Self . Such is the United States of America . After reading and contemplating Nannan Z’s latest diorama, several thoughts popped into my head that I wanted to share via Lego; chiefly that of the greed of today’s society as impelled by the overwhelming power of the media. You might find this a little more straight-forward than the imaginative writings that are the fundamentals of Nannan’s series of dioramas, but hopefully this will prove to be equally thought provoking. Seemingly surreal and meaningless, this structure depicts (like I said before) modern society walking down the path of the media, through the gateways of self, and to the inferno of utter destruction. Just as dark colors absorb heat, the black figures represent those who absorb care and affection from those around them and as they have an abundance of such, are able to distribute care and affection to the rest of the world. But to the dismay of a select few, these black figures have been lured by the media down the stairs of decided ignorance one step at a time, until suddenly they enter the doorway of self, morphing into self-absorbed figures of grey, completely repealing the world around them; just as light colors repeal heat. After that, the figures have no choice but to mindlessly stroll down the highway of self, eventually meeting their doom in the flames of death. But before our little American figures can even begin their way down the steps of ignorance, they have to be shown the way to destruction as a nation. That leader is – I believe – the media. Whether it’s music, TV, movies, video games, it’s all the same. Everything is focused intently on self. And seeing as the United States is focused intently on media, it is not hard to come to the conclusion we are unarguably fixated on the almighty “ME”. Considering the immoral selfishness of the United States, we are being swept off our feet by the crushing flood of self as advertised by today’s media and then thrown into the inferno of death as a nation. All the while listening unknowingly to a polluted ideology of lies! Should we catch this, there is yet time to save us. But as of now – as of December 31st, 2009 – we are going to die a disastrous death that is caused by self-love and encouraged by the media. Fourthwall Commentary: Please note that I used the United States as an example only due to the fact that I live here. I cannot judge England, Australia, Germany, or any other “first world countries”. But knowing that the media is present everywhere in the world, I am sure that its influence is. I will leave it at that. Please feel free to leave your thoughts or opinion. Not that the interwebs are lacking in opinion…
