Blackbeard's last stand . Exactly 291 years ago- 22th november 1718- in the Ockracoke inlet -in the coast of North Carolina- notorious pirate Blackbeard- real name most likely Edward Teach- was cornered by the Lieutenant Maynard of the British royal navy- instead of running away like normal pirates Blackbeard and his crew decided to stand and fight- to the death (Not fighting to run away which of course was pirates tradition ;P) . View of the whole diorama- two sloops- and sea built out of bricks- i hope you like it too it was of course hard to do but i am pretty pleased with a result although water is impossible to do perfectly with bricks- and please do not say that it should be snot or i will... well be angry... these are the "Pirates of the studdy sea" XD... Intro of the best Blackbeard movie ever (if you ask me) very realistic (not completely true though) and very well done (not with hollywood budget though but very nicely done ships, ports and costumes and the music, acting and directing were especially well done- i recommend for all piratefans...) Sloops are the Adventure (Blackbeard's sloop) and Jane or the Ranger (Maynard's) Strange that different sources disagree which one was that sloop commanded by Maynard himself- he had two sloops HMS Ranger and HMS Jane -all sources say- but some say that Ranger was the one destroyed by the Blackbeards broadside- some (like wiki)says it was Jane -still the other one was commanded by the midshipman Hyde (instead of actual officer) and this moc takes place after that sloop was destroyed- so that is why only one british ship- (Neither of the british ships had cannons btw- so all the reliable sources say)! Maynard's sloop (Jane or Ranger) has run aground (really they were free at the time- some sources however disagree about that so i can't be sure if they were free or stuck at the time- at least they run aground once) Pirate sharpshooter loads his musket... ... after the musket fire Adventure closes in and pirates throw their grapple hooks to the deck of the other sloop (Jane or Ranger) Blackbeard enters the ship and sees Maynard almost alone with a helmsman and few others- thinking that others were left -he believe he has won .. But Maynard stomps a deck as a signal and his men appear below the decks... .. And a real battle begins... Maynard tries to fight Blackbeard- he is good swordsman but not match for that terrifying and strong pirate... Maynard's cutlass/smallsword was destroyed (by the tradition it is also said he even lost some finger's- i had to destroy one of my many cutlasses :( but i cutted it so that i can use the same for Jack Sparrow vs. Davy Jones duel if i rebuilt it some day) Anyway Blackbeard failed to notice the swordwielding scot who slashed he to the neck... Not even the Blackbeard can stand so many injuries- it is told that he is shot 5 times and slashed 20 times! So he dies as any other mortal man... ..story of the Blackbeard was now ended... but he will live on as a pirate legend. Black Caesar- one of the Blackbeard's most trusted man- was carrying out the last order's of his captain to explode the gunpowder of the Adventure to destroy the sloop instead of surrendering to the british... ..But he is stopped by two of the Blackbeard's prisoner's/ crewmen- i dunno whether they really were- different sources say different things- real was that sloop didn't blow up high like the Blackbeard would have wanted... ..Seeing their captain fall all his men immediately surrendered to the brits... ..At the end of the day deck was running with blood and full of dead bodies... .. Blackbeard's head was cut of and it hanged from the bow of the Maynard's sloop (Jane or Ranger) as trophy and evidence that he was finally taken care of- still it took many years for the Maynard to get money 100 that were to promised him by Governor Spotswood of Virginia.. ... it was the end of Blackbeard- technically he wasn't even pirate anymore- he had received the royal pardon - still it is believed that he didn't stop pirating after that- technically Governor Spotswood of Virginia sent liuetenant Maynard after him illegally- still his death is remembered as the death of the greatst pirate captain of all time and his severed head hang as a warning to the pirates at the mouth of the Hampton river...(all should be TRUE history) ..It is told that when blackbeard's headless body was thrown overboard among the rest of the dead... ...it swam around maynard's ship- some say two some even seven times- but that is just a story isn't it... ...nevertheless Blackbeard had become such a legend that we still remember him as one of the greatest pirates- here is my Blackbeard custom minifig- i had to color one of my beards to black of course.
