Why?
Burj Al Arab, Dubai . Model completed in 2009. . A microscale model of the famous Dubai luxury hotel. This model is approximately 1/650th scale, similar to my other skyscapers. It took seven months to design and build. Brickshelf Gallery The Burj Al Arab is built upon an artificial island that rises out of the Persian Gulf just off the shore of the Jumeirah beach in Dubai. A bridge connects the island to the mainland. Note that in the model, the water darkens toward the deeper parts away from the shore. This is accomplished by using various shades of blue plates beneath trans-light blue plates and tiles. The Burj Al Arab is shaped like the sail of an Arabian dhow sailing vessel. Two v-shaped wings of the hotel are connected with a white sail-like fabric membrane which creates a towering atrium. The curving "fabric" wall is constructed using flex tubes and white technic beams. Guests of the hotel arrive by chauffeured Rolls Royce or via helicopter. The helicopter landing pad near the roof has also featured a tennis match between Andre Agassi and Roger Federer, and Tiger Woods practicing his tee shots. Meanwhile, I'm patiently waiting for LEGO to produce the 4x4 round plate in the color green. Front view of the tower. A side view showing the curving profile of the hotel. There are 28 double story floors. All suites feature two floors and range in size from 1800 to 8300 square feet. Prices start at more than $1000 per night, and the largest suite lists at $28,000 per night. The Al Muntaha restaurant cantilevers out over the water at a height of 660ft, offering spectacular views.
