So far my best creation on MOC Pages...AN EXACT REPLICA OF THE M1A1 THOMPSON SMG. INCLUDES FULL ATTACHMENTS WITHIN.
About this creation
The time has come to enter another creation in MOC pages. I didn't know what to build, and got the idea of building a M1A1 Thompson. Not to brag, it is one of my better *cough* best MOC ever. This is my first attempt ever at making a weapon of any kind, so I hope I have done a good job. So sit back and enjoy!

Here is a side view.
The Thompson, was built for WWII, for use with the americans. It was designed by John T. Thompson.

Here is a closer view of the "body" Notice the 20-round clip, which is fully removable. Also the bolt seen on the side really cocks.
The cartridge is a .45 ACP cartridge.

The picture that I looked at to help with the design of the Thompson, compare mine with this...

To make it as realistic as possible, I added a working trigger, as you can see, the rubber band inside of the trigger, lets my pull it, and then it will immediatly snap back in place.

The stock. The hardest part about building this, believe it or not. I tryed 5 different models, and put about 7 hours into this alone.
The stock should be a little longer, by about a half inch, but whose measuring?

A top view. I made it as slick as possible, making the top smooth with those slick pieces. The real Thompson was about 32 inches long, mine is about 30 1/2. It fired at a rate of 600-1200 RPM (round per minute), depending on the model.

Take a good look at the sights, I used the good, old stick technique. It lines up with the front sight, but it is not shown in this picture.

Ah, were getting to the good stuff. For my COD WAW fans, as you know once you get to 25 kills you unlock a silencer. Here is the first attachment.

Here is a closer view of the silencer. I tryed many models, but then found that tires worked very well, and got the job done. The silencer generally reduced the sound made when firing the weapon, but the range was shortened slightly, as a result.

Well after 75 kills you will unlock a little thing called aperture. It helps you aim.

Take a peak into it, now fire at the nice white poster.

A front view with aperture, yeah I know, pretty sweet.

Which leads us to....THE ROUND DRUM! This is achieved after 150 kills in COD. Drums can hold either 50 or 100 rounds, once again depending on the model.

Here is a front view of the round drum. It's quite hardcore, I guess.

The accessories, (left to right) the round drum, silencer, aperture, and the standard clip. They can all be interchanged with ease.

Why do people always lean guns on walls. Why, people why? Anyway here it is leaning up on a wall.

border="0" width="500" height="334" alt="">
Here you can see me holding it, it was built as a 1:1 scale, and this picture helps prove that. The real Thompson weighs 10.6 lbs, empty. Mine weighs about 2 1/2 - 3 pounds. It is so heavy that I was sore, and bed ridden for three days after holding this for only 5 minutes. Kidding, I was kidding.

PIMPED, the Thompson with all the attachments.

Some interesting facts:
1 .It is 31 inches long,and weighs 3 pounds.
2. Overall it has over 2,550 pieces. (including attachments)
3. It took about 30 hours to complete the whole thing.

Thanks so much for viewing. I hoped you enjoyed looking at it, as much as I did building it.
Please, please comment on it, give some advice, and tell me how I did.
Keep on MOCin everyone!

THANKS SO MUCH! - Dylan

Fantastic replica! I only have one complaint about it, and that is the stock, as it looks a little curvy, but i doubt that i could do better. Also, ambidextrous models of the M1A1 had the bolt on the top of the gun, with the bolt shaped like a U so you could see through it. Perhaps this would have been easier to do, but i guess it doesn't matter now. Anyways, great model and keep up the good work.

Quoting lol wut ? When you said EXACT replica, I laughed pretty hard and it made my day! I couldn't stand how this got so many likes.
You have good points, but my question to you is simply why do you even care?
  February 10, 2010
Overrated. I'll tell you what's wrong if everyone else is going to say its good to fit in. Ejection port...WAY too small not to mention it's in the wrong place. Stock is way too thin, and the wrong shape. Trigger guard and trigger are huge, and the fore part (the brown part) looks likes it's morphed into the rest of the gun. It's too short. Silencer is too short, round drum too thin (compared to the rest of the gun), the angle on the pistol grip is like 80 degrees (its not supposed to be). When you said EXACT replica, I laughed pretty hard and it made my day! The gun itself is too short also. How you got 98 likes? Is beyond God but I have to give you slight credit on the colours. You get 1/5 only for the colour and your very poor effort, plus that disability of yours to tell if your gun is exactly the same as a real one. Sorry. Just had to be an honest critic. I couldn't stand how this got so many likes. :P

I dont like it, and i also dont understand why this is likes by 83 people!! the stock is just bad, the grip is weird, the barrel is kinda weird, the drum is too blocky and to small, the sight is too small and to much on the back, the slide is too big and the slide handle isnt round, the triggerguard is way too big, and to round, the extras are just crap and totally not thompson m1a1, also the drum magazine is weird for a M1A1, because the SMG is famous for his drum magazine, nto the M1A1... Im not trying to hurt you in any way or something but its just, i cant imagine why its liked 83 times... Check out mine maybe?

Quoting Aaron Banuelos Dylan im making my own Thompson 9except its red and black) and do you think SNOT would be good for the stock? im having troublr with that the most.
Although I didn't use SNOT on my thompson, I would agree that it is the best approach for making the stock (assuming you have the proper tile pieces). I've been experimenting with it on my AK-47, it is 100% studless except the stock, it might not match well with the other parts of the gun this way. Anyway can't wait to see what you do come up with, and good luck. -Dylan

I have to echo many things that Pybrick said below. I noticed that the front stock on yours is flush with the lower part of the barrel, unlike the real one that extends down more. The trigger should not be skeletonized... that's a modern thing. It still looks cool. Add me to your group, 'the best MOCs'. My 7 foot long spaceship, Dynonochus speaks for itself.

  February 19, 2009
I'd like to join The Best MOCs group. Warning, very heavy critiquing ahead: I really don't like the stock; yes, it is very difficult to do, but there are too many faults in the design. If you upload this onto Flickr, I can show you specifically which parts need improvement. The pistol grip is too steep, the charging handle is too far back, and the M1A1 does not have the notches in the upper receiver to accept the drum magazine (previous models including the M1921, M1928 have he notches). The drum magazine is too small; it needs to be about 16-studs in diameter. The back end of the upper receiver does not slope down, and the magazine needs to be at 3-studs wide. Then, increasing the magazine width implies that you'd need to increase the trigger guard with to match. I hope this does not offend you and this is not meant to put down your efforts. It is meant to be an aid to improve your M1A1.

The only things i notice that i can criticize on are just some small details. first of all, great job on the stock, it doesn't look exactly like the real thing, but i sure would know from my Barrett that that is not always possible. uh, second, the very tip of the barrel has one too many cylinder bricks, because the front sight is supposed to be at the very tip. also, the silencer is too short, add like two more wheels and you have it. the aperture sight is sort of awkward and sort of big looking. try using one of those lens things like the ones on my Barret's scope and put a black stud in the middle, that might work. one last thing, the whole body should be black, not gray, but you have probably realized this as well. I really like the brown "wood" parts, and the drum mag! 4/5 until you fix some of those small things! great job though!

Hopefully I am allowed to join considering I'm pretty new to MOCpages (though I've been browsing it for a while). Anyways, the gun itself is great, very accurate, perfect size. I always preferred pure SNOT (I know gross isn't it?) on LEGO guns, but honestly it doesn't make much of a difference as the overall design of this gun is really what makes it stand out. Great work, if ya got a sec I appreciate all comments/ratings on any of my stuff, thanks! And one more time, nice gun!

It's very good, but I still have some criticism. #1 is the stock. It's too small and skinny. Also, while you got the curves on it right, they seem to be a little to, well, curvy. It kinda makes the stock seem out of proportion (I know I spelled that wrong). Other than that, it's pretty good, but while I'm here, I've got to say this about W@W. I HATE the developers for some of the things they did. The first is the drum mag. An M1A1 thompson was not designed to and could not hold a drum mag. Only M1921's and M1928's could take drums. I guess thats the developers fault and not yours though.

If you blur your eyes a bit, the stock is fine. I can see what you were trying to do with it and I do not envy the task of getting those subtle curves done just right. Overall it's a very impressive model. (contest)

First one, heh? You're off to a great start, then. Nice job on the general shape. I think your time working on the stock was well spent. I can see where that would have been a difficult portion of the build, but it works nicely. I like the working trigger as well. Over all a great job!
