The making of the engine bay for the 1/3 lego lambo.
About this creation
Hi,
We got a huuuuge box of lego the other day - which had a lot of the bits I'll need to get a good start on the engine bay and interior (more'll be coming soon!).
Since orders were made from different people, we can't tell what will come in which parcel and when, but luckily this one came quite quick and had all the its we needed for the engine bay - so I've been very busy building and the engine bay's now finished.
Instead of loads of photos of the finished thing, I thought you might find it more interesting to see how it was made, so the photos show, in order, the progress of the building.
The photo near the end showing the whole model at it's current stage looks quite horrible, as it looks like somebody's just put a big box on the back of the chassis; but I've been working out the scales and , the the nearest centimeter (half-inch) , that's exactly how it should be. I think it just looks out of place because everything else is still very low, once it's built up a bit it'll look more 'normal'.
The othe photo near the end with the horrible multicolor thing is just to show roughly how and where the engine will sit; what you see there is just a mock-up engine I made ages ago just to get the approximate size.
I've also added a photo of the engine bay of the real car - this was the only photo I could find for reference of the engine bay.
Hope you like it ! Please rate it if you do :)
If you're new to this, you might want to have a look at the previous build diaries; they're on my page.
Coming soon : beginnings of the interior...
P.S. If you are looking to buy lego for your creations, I would like to recommend the following Bricklink lego shop ; "About Town, Castle & Train" ( http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=stacey_love )
I personally know the shopholders, and they are very nice, devoted people. They are currently sponsoring 100% of my 1/3 Lamborghini project, providing all of the parts; and have made various other donations to other models I have made.
The store has a wide selection of parts (over 600,000!), at good prices, and offer an exceptional, fast service (no tax or dodgy exchange rates, next day postage, etc). you won't be disappointed !

I forgot to comment on this particular diary, so here it is. Man the waiting on this is killing me, just because of the epicness of this project. I am sure its going to take some long hours so I better get used to waiting! Really if you pull this off, my hat, no, ALL my clothes are off to you... wait, no I didn't mean it like that, see that was supposed to emphasize my sincere admiration of this amazing project, you understand!... right? |

Hi - just a quick update :
The floor's now done.
And man, nobody would appreciate the work gone into it at a glance... that's why, ready for the next build diary, I've taken photos showing exactly how the floor was made - it looks like a bunch of grey baseplates; and that's what it is on top; but there's a huge intricate grid spanning the whole width of the car made up from literally hundreds - if not thousands - of bits of technic and plates ; I needed to do this to give strength to the floor all over, as it'll be carrying quite some weight...
My fingernails are hurting from separating seemingly millions of baseplates from each other, so I think I'll give it a little rest for now... next up is most likely the seats, of transmission tunnel or something like that...

I still want to see the cat give it a test drive. ~ Chris.
Hahaha :)
Well actually, a few minutes after posting this, the postman turned up with another huge box of lego - one that had loooooads of dark red bits - which means I'll be able to start buidling quite a bit of the interior - starting with the seats ... so I'll try and get a picture of my cat in it if I can get him to sit still for the photo lol :)
