Here is the Original Interceptor (Pic Credited to SN 2008)
After building my latest new LEGO set (the standard LEGO Interceptor) I wasnít satisfied with it and built a beefed up version. That was about a year(?) ago but I never took any pictures of it. I was watching the Original SW trilogy a few days ago and decided to rebuild my customized Interceptor again. But since then (after seeing Saber-Scorpionís TIE Defender) Iíve made some improvements. The most important is the design of the struts. To support the wings on his Defender, Scorpion used technic plus rods and his wings are heavier than mine so I thought they would do a great job, they did. The original struts wobbled quite a bit, and after coming up with the new struts, the wings donít wobble at all.
Other customizations include a lower, longer profile after adding a 12x4 panel to each wing, eight low output shield emitters (resulting in the same shield potential as the X-Wing, however with far more redundancy), dual warhead launchers each with a 3-torpedo magazine, two ion cannons (taken directly from the TIE Defender), an added Hyperdrive Engine, and two decoy beam generators. A less obvious alteration: the primary laser cannons have been moved back from the wing tips toward the pod to increase accuracy and solar panel efficiency (now all the panels just send energy back the pod rather than having to move energy forward back to the cannons). The end result is a ship with the same agility and sublight speed as the Interceptor but with a drastic increase in offensive and defensive capability.
oO0oh ... very nice ! ... i like your version better than the kit ... btw, i made a few changed to that kit also ... but i wasn't trying to make a TIE Interceptor, i made a variant of a TIE phantom ... check it out at http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/98835 and tell me what ya think. :)
Nice work. That's probably my favorite Tie craft in the series and I like your improvments. I built something based on its design. But I didn't have a Tie canopy so it looks a little wierd. One guy said it looked like the batboat with wings... Nice work though. Peace - Patrick
