After I survived the crash of my previous car, I bought an old model Audi TT. The old model is so much more stylish then the newer one (which is technologically 10 years more advanced, but hey, I went for STYLE).
Having seen some nifty car models in Legoland in Denmark, I searched the web for a TT model in LEGO, but found nothing satisfying. So I modeled one in LEGO Digital Designer, collected the bricks via BrickLink, and built it.
About this creation
I used 3 plan views (2D drawings) and some custom drawing paper (squares the size of LEGO units) to design the TT.
From LEGO, I downloaded the FREE LEGO Digital Designer software, and trasnlated the drawing into a 3D model. The infinite number of bricks available certainly is a plus, but oh boy, changing something a few steps back in the design is dreadful...
The building instructions generator in LDD is not all that good. I think the instructions are really random, and confusing to use. In order to build the model, I then took it apart one brick at a time, and tallied the used parts.
Getting all the parts was quite easy through BrickLink, a website where people buy and sell bricks (yeah Google is your friend).
When the bricks started rolling in, I started building:
And after some time (and some ad-libbing) it even looked like a model of a TT:

Hi Preston,
Feel free to use and modify the TT design as you wish. If you improve it, take the credit yourself. I'm just glad you like the design.

This is a great design, but the fact that you actually built it is even better! Great work. The only thing I dont like is that the wheels look a little too big and the whole thing could be a little wider. On LDD I think i might make a racing version of this if you dont mind. Thanks! 5/5 |
