Don't look back -- something might be gaining on you.
About this creation
He heard the scream of utter terror behind him, and knew that the beast had gotten McNamara. Now it was just him, one man left alive from their entire squad.

He didn't turn to look, that scream said all he needed to know. All he could do was try to slog faster through this stinking muck. It sucked at his boots, holding him down like those nightmares where you can only run in slow motion. Only now the nightmare was real.

"Don't stop! Save yourself!" McNamara shouted, before his voice was cut off with a horrible wet ripping sound.

Had McNamara seen that he didn't hesitate, didn't so much as flick a quick glance back over his shoulder? Of course it was hopeless, they knew that. How many of their buddies had they already left behind in this panicked retreat?

Maybe it was aimed at salving his conscience a bit, should he by some miracle escape the beast and live to bear a survivor's guilt. McNamara was the type to do just that.

He'd lost his weapon, much good it did against that monster anyway. It was just ballast weighing him down when the squad broke and ran.

Still, it might be better to die facing the thing with gun blazing like the lieutenant, than running in terror. A tentacle tip flicked over his head. He knew it was over.

But still he kept trying to run.

Wow... perhaps more disturbing than a few month's worth of Nannan Zhang's creations, and really well-built. It took me a few moments to figure out what arch elements those were... I envy your collection of them. |

...we see all the action in the first three pics. The final four images don’t “earn their way” in the over all presentation. They are a little redundant redundant.
Agreed on the redundant redundancy. I wouldn't necessarily ditch the last four, but I easily could have (and maybe should have) cut the total number of pics in half. Not much room for different camera angles in such close quarters.

Excellent! The use of arches, the selection of minifig faces, the lighting, and even the little red light on the tunnel roof. The pics are clear and well chosen. A delight! But we see all the action in the first three pics. The final four images don’t “earn their way” in the over all presentation. They are a little redundant redundant. Attack! |

Not only a great build and story, but also a great illustration of just what a good angle and crop can do as well. Just checked out the flcker backstory -- until I saw it, I thought maybe you had stretched some of that green plastic wrap you see at holiday time in a frame to make a filter. Probably easier to do it the way you did, it really adds a creepy feel to the MOC. |

To answer the ubiquitous "where'd you get the parts?" question, one word - BRICKLINK! (I had a bunch of those arches from the classic Castle sets of years gone by, but have acquired more through the magic of Cracklink.)
To anyone who's curious as to how the lighting was done, here's a behind the scenes look on flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/66535891@N00/3241426547/ You normally don't get to see the seamy underbelly of my MOCs, so you should feel privileged. |

What parts are you using for the walls? They work really well whatever they are.
The walls are undersides of 1x12 arches. 52 total (all I own in light gray) were used in this MOC.
