About this creation
Carbon Nanotube
Nanotubes are members of the fullerene, structural family, which also includes the spherical buckyballs. The cylindrical nanotube usually has at least one end capped with a hemisphere of the buckyball structure.
The path to building the carbon nanotube can be seen in the C60, to C70, to the C80 D5d buckyballs, the way each layer of 10 new carbon atoms / vertices are added stretch the buckyball into a nanotube.
To my knowledge this is the first carbon nanotube MOC.
Hey,
I teach chem and my wife's doctoral research involved adducts of C70, so we spent a lot of time playing with models of these. This whole series is really cool. I do envy your collection of hinge plates.
