James Joyce (1882-1941, Irish) leads the pack with this batch of minifigs honoring writers of novels, short stories, scientific texts, and more.

Charles Dickens (above): English novelist. 1812-1870.

John Steinbeck: American novelist, playwright, essayist. 1902-1968.

George Orwell (born Eric Arthur Blair): English author and journalist. 1903-1950.

F. Scott Fitzgerald: American writer, socialite, spokesman for the "Lost Generation." 1896-1940.

Maxim Gorky: Russian writer and Soviet revolutionary. 1868-1936.

Ada Lovelace: Lord Byron's daughter, collaborator with Charles Babbage, Countess, and arguably the world's first technical writer. 1815-1852.

Ernest Hemingway: American writer, journalist, WWI ambulance driver, cat lover, Nobel Prize winner. 1899-1961.


Virginia Woolf: English novelist and essayist. 1882-1941.

Boy, I never read any of these guys since I was a young lad. I never read either of the women or that Gorsky guy. These guys are mostly too serious for me now, though Orwell's Down and Out in Paris and London is still a favorite. Give me a J K Rowling, Diana Wynne Jones or a Jenny Nimmo to pass the time away. Nice lookin' figs though. see ya. garth
