Hurricane Heavy Assault Craft
The Hurricane is a heavy assault troop carrier for Lego Space Force
About this creation
Thank you for checking out my creation! The idea for this creation began with a bag of about 100 yellow Futuron minifigs that I had bought a while ago. I wanted to incorporate them, or at least some of them, into a creation. So I had the idea of a large gunship for the Lego Space Force, capable of transporting many troops from planet to planet.

The Hurricane is both heavily armored and well armed. It carries 16 high yield air to surface missiles in it's underwing pylons. At the wing roots and tail are rotating heavy laser cannons. The dorsal hump features 3 quad laser cannon turrets for offense and defense when supporting troop deployment.

The Hurricane is no slump for size, especially it's massive engines. In addition to being a very sturdy weapons platform the troops carried inside are well protected by thick armor on all sides.

The broad delta wings not only aid in atmospheric repulsor "flight" but also provide important cover from aerial attacks on deploying ground troops.

The forward ramp being deployed.

Forward ramp extended.

Rear troop ramp closed.

Rear troop ramp open.

A closer view of some of the greebling.

Quad laser turrets on top.

Powerful engines! While there are 4 main engines, only two are needed most of the time.

Full interior view.

Close up of the control cabin. The pilot is in center flanked by weapons crew.

Troops galore!

The comm officer and rear weapons crew situated in the tail of the ship.

An underside view showing the missile pods and the landing gear.

Rear landing gear extended. I used a simple brick hinge design.

Landing gear retracted.

How much does it weigh? 50 lbs? I have a little somthing for you. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/183567 I want you to remake this piece. Then add a front, two sides, and then a back, all in 16x16. (For the sections) Then, curve it to try to make it round. Leave the back square. The whole thing would be 48x48, with the front curved. Can you do it?

Hi Soren, Thank you for your praise! I have been collecting and building for about 19 years now. I started back when I was in college and the hobby has grown. Now my two sons are into it as well. It's a lot of fun. As far as instructions, the only models that I made instructions for are my Lego Spiffcraft and Desk Model Fighter. Everything else is rather complicated and would consume way to much of my time to try to recreate directions. None of my creations are glued together, just regular bricks and sturdy building and connections. --Dan
  January 12, 2010
Hey agian Dan. I noticed that your models have a lot of difficult angels and structures to build in the old fashioned way, so it's not to be unpolite but did you use glue to hold those angels or just a lot of brackets and hinges, to keep it studless? Still my favourite lego designer, I just started bying bricks from brickshelf to create my own ultimate construction, it's gonna be a prison carrier:-)

dear dan. i am absolutely your biggest fan, i like your sci-fi universe and your creativity is unbeliveble. you should be a designer for lego right away. did you make instructions to your creations, if so i would like a copy, by the way, how do you collect all those bricks it can't be from just buying sets, did you buy parts from bricklink, you must have tons of lego worth 1 million dollars:-)

Ok...When the Med Techs slapped me awake after seeing this I just HAD to comment, something I very rarely every do. The design is absolutely gorgeous and it just feels like it has more than a home. I'm part of a gaming community and I would Love to talk to the building about having that ship done in a Computer Rendition for a possible addition to a Online Game. Either way, keep up the excellent work!

Hey, I really liked seeing this, it has tons of cool things to look at! Sweet graphic for one, and I like that detail (wheel hub) by the foward ramp too. Good use of slopes and corner slopes all around. Like by the front edges of the wings. I have to say, neat idea building around those biggie radar dishes on the out sides of the engines! I like that 2x2 printed tile in the pilot's display. (had to say it) That's a lot of troops.

your ship is AWESOME!!!!! if i could, i'd build a soldier transport like your ship. but it probably won't come close to what you got. great design. i love it! just one little, teeny-tiny hint. you should add some escape pods for the pilots, soldiers, etc, so if the ship get's hit and is about to blow, the soldiers can make it. love your ship! keep building!!

This is absolutely amazing... it's so detailed, and even minifig-scale! I like how you've made a simple-looking, yet hard to build creation! The only suggestion could be, as said below, to enlarge the troop section, but it's only a minor correction... this is one of your best MOCs.

  January 16, 2009
Very cool. The overall shape is a simple yet aesthetically pleasing design and yet on closer examination there is still lots of little details. It reminds me a lot of a B 52. In fact, with that much weaponry I'm sure it could be converted into an effective bomber. As just a little practical consideration, though, the troop section looks so narrow that it would take an inordinate amount of time for them all to disembark. It kinda reminds me of an airliner. Still very cool though
