No better gift to give your wife unexpectedly on a Saturday afternoon than a new refrigerator, chock full of ice cream and soda, with a bouquet of red roses on top!
About this creation
I've been spending a lot of time lately on my latest skyscraper project (soon to be unveiled here). So this past Saturday I was able to convince my wife to spend the afternoon doing "freestyle Lego building". She agreed, and as I started building a jet black airplane, I realized that my wife might feel, well, a bit in over her head and unsure of my expectations of her. I decided to even the playing field a bit, and to make it a more enjoyable afternoon for her that we'd set the "theme" for the day to be "household items". Not wanting to come up with something overwhelmingly complex, I opted for a box with a door, aka - a refrigerator. I've been buying parts from bricklink like mad over the past several months, secretly building up my arsenal for more and more skyscrapers, so I had a fair amount to work with. I had some ladders which I used as shelves (made adjustable by using modified bricks on the right-hand side and having protruding plates on the inside left side of the fridge). The whole design was scaled to using the ladders as adjustable shelves.
Here we have the fridge up against the kitchen wall, just moved in but not yet pushed back and plugged in...
I had as much fun building the ice cube trays, 6-packs of Powerade, quarts of ice cream, dozen eggs, and everything else that went in the fridge as I had building the fridge itself.
There is a sliding vegetable drawer, as there should be in any fridge to keep the stacks of green 1x1 round plates, er, uh, I mean,...bunches of scallions, fresh. There are a dozen eggs and a couple packages of hamburger patties on the top shelf. The 2nd shelf has a couple six-packs of soda, and the bottom shelf has a 6-pack of Blue Cool Mountain Powerade.
Here we can see that we've slid the fridge back against the wall and plugged it in. All ready to go now...
We just have to open the door and make sure the light comes on like it's supposed to. Okay.
So we shut the door again and admire it from across the room
Ah yes, the freezer. We have a couple ice-cube trays in there with a lot of ice cubes stored up in the container on the left side. (You need a lot of ice for all of that soda and Powerade. There's also 2 quarts of ice-cream, and some frozen sausage links (for eating with the eggs, of course...)
The back of the fridge has female horizontal block hinges. It's so hard to find the male sides, I have a ton of the female sides piling up. I originally intended on just using them up on the back where nobody could see, but when I got done, it looked a LOT like the refrigeration coils that are on the back of the fridge, so I figured it was picture-worthy as well.
Bon appetit!

So realistic, I feel a chill just looking at it. Brrr! What a fun project. Hey, how do you get your wife to work with you? When I bring out my Legos, mine just rolls her eyes and leaves the room! Great job. |

No wonder you had to convince your wife to build with you, who would want to build with someone so talented? I mean no matter what you come up with it will always be overshadowed, no one likes that! This really is some good work, and all its only a little afternoon project! I, like you, have also been searching bricklink like mad, in fact you may have beaten me to some purchases. Have you ordered any trans-black, clear, or blue 1x2's lately? How about any 2x2x1 trans-black panels? Great work as always. |

This was one of the best things you have given me as a gift! It has adjustable shelves, beveratges, ice cream, a pull out veggie drawer, and more! What more can a chef ever want? I had an incredible time building with you, although my teapot (hasn't been posted yet as it is my first MOC ever!) is not even close to being on par with your realistic refrigerator! Awesome creation! |
