Had to do a bit of research on this one as Ice Planet was a Dark Age thing to me. Reminds me a bit of that weird Autobot "Sky Lynx". The design's not very fancy but with limited blue bricks it worked out alright. Now seeing as how I'm in theme mode I'm off to look up Spyrius...ciao baby!
I thought I commented on this! (flickr's fault) The Ice Planet colors work perfectly for VOAT. Your solutions for the skis are flawless victories Shannon. You've closed a dark void left by your dark years by building this! :D
I read the exact same thing as Dave. I find it an interesting series of coincidences that a) it sounds like "fro licker", b) it's colored like a bomb pop, and c) I just did a moc with you wearing a hellacious fro...now I know there's a joke in there somewhere, but darned if I can find it!
Zach: it stands for Variations On A Theme, as invented by the illustrious Uspez Morbo. It's basically a ship with that Blacktron style cokpit and only two colours for the build. Check out the VOAT group if your interested:
I didn't care of the ice planet theme when they were out before. I just went to Bricklink and looked at the sets. They still don't look too good. This ship is better than the stuff that came out as sets. see ya. garth
It's good to see more Ice Planet stuff, especially from you! The lack of a proper Ice Planet minifig and some different trans-colors are unfortunate, but those are my only complaints. This is great overall, and I especially like how you used those Mars Mission alien pods on the wings. After Spyrius, I think you should try Stingrays, or maybe Exploriens. I bet you would do good with Insectoids, too.
Ice Planet rocks!! looks like it would fit into the line up perfectly! Also, don't know if you know of this already, but
has pretty much every instruction for all the old sets! I use it for a reference sometimes when I'm needing inspiration for older models.
whoa! sweet as..pie!!! thats a really cool looking space vehicle right there. great job shannon my friend you have done a great job again. and happy new year! may your new year be filled with lego bricks!
I looked at this and thought, "Now what does that remind me of?" SKYLINX! Thank you! That was it! Looking forward to the spyrious stuff. My first set as an AFOL was a spirious robot. Not too sure I like the Ice Planet reference though... could be that it's just because I moved to Hoth recently and nobody bothered to tell me. I mean, I tried to go to the store a couple of days ago but my taun taun froze before I reached the first marker! ~ Chris.
