NoVVember!
Best. Month. Ever.
About this creation
This november was Vic Viper month on Flickr, as brought to you by nnenn and Peter Morris. I thought I'd join in the fun and try to go the whole month doing Viper variations. Once I had aquainted myself with what a Vic Viper actually looked like and looked at the rules (2 forward prongs, wings at the back, a single tail and the rest was up to your imagination) I thought I'd test the water with how strictly Morris and nnenn wanted the VV variations to follow the original or if we could get crazy. Hence the
Arcade fighter you may remember:

Which I must say I forgot the tail but it got the green light so I was off and building!

Next I went for a fairly mainstream design in blue: the Kingfisher. It's small cuz mah blue inventory is kinda small.

Next up I wanted to do something with those UFO quarters and I eventually came up with this nasty Blacktron number: the "Onyx Obliterator":
alt="">

As you can see for the first few pics, the basic design was there but I was having trouble with the cockpit. A redesign later and it eventually coalesced into some Blacktron hunter/fighter. Arachnid suggestions were deliberate.

For the next one I was still in a black mood but wanted to have a bit of fun. I remembered my Rotting Pelican and thought "I wonder if I could do a Viper chassis in technic?" So the story with this one was this poor sap had landed on a ghetto planet to quickly pick up some milk on his way home and when he comes back to his Viper it's up on blocks: completely stripped!

I knew I wanted to have a cyborg racer in the VV pool so I came up with this spiffy little dude: "White Knight"!

I always wanted to suggest limbs in the mechanical parts of CRs and I got closer to that with this one I think. You may notice some pieces left over from the arcade fighter. Someone on Flickr remarked that it reminded them of Drix from Osmosis Jones which made me laugh.

For a slight change of pace I wanted to go microscale on this VV.

And I noticed a lot of the Vipers I was seeing by other people seemed fairly symmetrical so I wanted to make asymmetry a feature on this one. I had an idea for a military spaceship that was aging but that had undergone some kind of refit and maybe served a new purpose. So here's an old fighter with it's forward mandibles removed and replaced with electronic warfare packages. I designated it "Prowler" to reference the A6-B Prowler which I love. (I've always been fascinated with special purpose aircraft; planes that can fly where other aircraft can't or can "see" further, etc, etc) I've included the Prowler being escorted by a smaller, more "modern" ship to (hopefully) emphasize the Prowler's age.

Halfway throught the month: phew! Most are still intact but I don't know whether I've got another 2 weeks of this left in me: my imagination is starting to wander and I find myself strangely wanted to build something castle...

Resolutely I vow to go on...;D Some of the other Vipers guys are doing are blowing me away and inspiring me to try harder with my next one.

Time to get Formula 1,000,000!

I love red spaceships but my red brick collection always seems to fustrate me. Anyway I managed to scrape this racer together with forward wings. For some reason I found this one a bit boring or just lacking any real interest. I'm wondering if my quality is slipping and I'm just churning them out for the sake of it?

Ok, I thought, time to go back to my roots.

When I first came outta my Dark Age all I seemed to want to build was insects (see my Pesticons folder). I still want to build more insects but I get distracted by so many other themes now...Anyway, this one's based off an African Goliath beetle. But of course in my head it's a giant (microscale) transport. Does it work for you?

Ok, I'm really stuggling to come up with fresh ideas at this point ( I think it was 3 weeks into November) Behold the "Repiv Civ":

This one's kinda my last ditch attempt and the quality is really lacking, I think. The basic idea is that it's got the Viper shape but backwards and I imagined it as a rough and ugly ground attack ship. I think it's one saving grace is the engine nacelles.

And that was it: VV burnout! I just couldn't think of any new ideas without re-using some old bits and pieces. My total = 8 Vipers. Somehow nnenn pulled off one Viper a day for the whole month. Now that, my friends, is commitment! At the end he put together this beautiful map of everyones' entries (which must've taken ages. Used with permission). Check it out: I bet you'll recognise lots of other builders there too! (Here's the original size map for more detail)

Thanks to nnenn and Peter for putting this out there and also thanks heaps to all of the other builders who inspired me no end with their VV designs!

I think it would be a great idea if we had a themed month here on MOCpages. What do y'all think?

Would you please be so kind and add this one and maybe some of your other Vic Vipers to the group "Vic Viper Owners Club"? We want to collect as many Vic Vipers as possible in this group and it would be great to have your ones there, too :-))

Wow, those are some cool Vic Vipers! I can't decide which one is my favourite, maybe it's the Ferrari one. Great job on all of them! :-))

I just keep looking at the stripped down one and that song keeps playing over and over in my head "In the Ghetoooo". Nice work Shanno. That showed some real dedication. My ADHD doesn't allow for such things... so good on ya there. ~ chris.

I love the stripped one the most. BTW, If y'all are looking for a theme, here's a little something I came up with: The True Dropship. Make a ship which holds a troop bay as a separate module which is released from the main craft by the force of gravity. Actually, I'm not so sure if you could call it a theme as much as it is a building challenge.

Hmm… JaNNuary? Or maybe DeCCember?? Deccember could be building clone trooper stuff, 'cause of the whole CC-#### business with clone names… I think November's the only month you can mess with though!
  December 18, 2008
We already have theme months on MOCpages. Right now it's the fifth or sixth month of Clone Wars month. Before that, we had Halo month for a couple of years.

Oh, and you should have really done a castle Vic. I would have been great! I made a castle Cyborg Racer (to be posted), and it turned out great. Castle goes good on anything.

My fav is definitely the Blacktron one, but they all look amazing (the Formula 1,000,000 needed that photoshopping swooshes, though). Yah, I would LOVE to have a themed month... seriously. We need to talk to Sean about that. BTW, for Flickr, is there a theme for December?

Very impressive, this is some of the best work I have seen from you, man. I don't want to sound patronising but it's great to see how much you have developed & improved as a builder.

If there had been some kind of an award for best VV of the month, my vote would have been for your stripped one. But theme months here? You're killing me, man! You know my stance on things like that.

I think the theme month would be great! (maybe then it would inspire me to get my Lego back from my moms house..)

Nice work man! I think the stripped one is my favorite as well. Even though NoVVember is over, I think I might give one of thes a try. I looked at the compilation photo of all the entrants and there are a lot of inspiring creations on it. Again, nice work. The new grid format looks great too! Peace - Patrick

Thanks for the fun gallery of your VVs, and the African Goliath Beetle works great in my opinion. Secondly, I think it's an absolutely great idea to have a themed month here on MOCpages, it would bring us together more as a community. Again, very good idea. Email me if I can help you with it in any way.

It's cool to see all of yours on one page like this and the way you set up the pics using the new grid layout is really nice. I agree that thinking up an original VV got a lot harder as the month went on (hence me only having 2) but seriously, great work putting out 8! The blue and red are my favs but the bare bones VV was genius! A themed month on MOCpages should be much easier to pull off once January hits and all the great changes take place.. you should kick it off with a CR month, possibly? :D

HAHA!, mine wasn't included because i didn't have a top view, and because it didn't have a high enough tail-fin. =P Well, i guess that is my fault, maybe i will do something like this again, or maybe not, most likely not, hehe. A well, u can't have anything straight. Nice VVipers though, i wish i could build like you. ~Martin
