A siege.
About this creation
Yep... this is my first MOC. Sorry about the bad pics, I just didn't have enough posterboard. Basically its a siege of a castle, led by a renegade warrior named John Wolfe, who is also leader of the Wolfpack. I will have a running story included with my mocs, and each moc will be a freeze frame from the story. Here's the story:
The wind howled through the trees, swirling around ancient trunks and trembling slender leaves. Suddenly, a flock of sparrows flew up from the trees, as though disrupted. And disrupted they were. A loud chanting could be heard among the trees, and out emerged a large army of men. The men wore chainmail, with the figure of a snarling wolf emblazoned on the front. At their head rode a tall man in black armour. This was John Wolfe, leader of the attacking army, or the Wolfpack. Behind the army was pushed a large wooden Ballista, and in it was loaded a cruel iron bolt. John Wolfe had one mission. To take control of the towering keep that stood before him. It was named Rangvhard,(it was the capital of the Kingdom of the Lion, the major Kingdom in the South of Alimara) and it was ruled by the good king GreatHelm the Red Bear, Conqueror of the South. John Wolfe was a renegade from the kings army after being flogged for disobeying orders, and now it was time to make the king pay. He signalled with his right hand, and with a loud RA-CHUNK, the ballista released its deadly cargo into the walls of Rangvhard, making a large hole. Immediately several Wolfpack men lowered a plank over the breach, and swarmed across. But they were met halfway by a Knight, dressed in the signature blue of the King’s elite. The Wolfpack men fell quickly, and John Wolfe snarled in anger. “General Grimfist!” he called. At his side appeared a heavily built man dressed in the same armour of the Wolfpack infantry, but he wielded a heavy iron battleaxe and wore a long cape. “Yes my lord?” he asked. John Wolfe turned to him, “Defeat that Knight defending the breach in their walls. NOW!” The general moved off quickly, and engaged the knight in a duel.
Up on the battlements, the King watched the battle with interest. Suddenly, he turned around and called behind him, “Sir Elimthor! Bring me the oracle! This has gone on for long enough!” At his side appeared a tall man with long brown hair, wearing heavy silver armour. He was carrying a small blue orb. The King grabbed it, and held it above his head, muttering incantations. “Yunaroth, Huration, Kelgaroth!” Arcs of blue lightning streaked from the orb, and slammed into the ground, killing several Wolfpack men and destroying the ballista. The blue lightning also hit the plank that spanned the moat, sending the knight and Wolfpack General tumbling into the rushing waters below. “No!” the King and John Wolfe shouted simultaneously. Signalling fiercely, John Wolfe called the retreat, and he wheeled around and galloped into the forest, his defeated army rushing behind him.
“We have won the battle my lord.” said Sir Elimthor. King GreatHelm nodded, but then said, “Ah, but we have failed in one thing, my knight. War has come to Alimara.”
Continued in Prologue Part 2: The Trolls of the North!

A view of the castle under siege, named Rangvhard. You can see the King ontop of the Battlements. The castle is raised 6 bricks off of the baseplate.

A view of the attacking armies. Note the ballista. It took me super long to build. This is also raised 6 bricks off the mat. The treehouse is on the Lion side.

Another view of the ballista. Sorry about the totally ragtag slot for the spear, and it was heck trying to get that rubber band on.

Ouch. I feel sorry for this guy, 'cause that croc looks pretty mean. Sorry that the moat isn't SNOT, i just didn't have enough bricks to make it so.

The tree house, in which sits the soldier/archer. I made it like this 'cause I didn't know how to make the tree 'end' so to speak. This was the easier alternative.

The inside of the castle. I know its pretty empty, but note the winches that hold the chains for the drawbridge. Also note the dungeon underneath the castle. You get into it by raising off those bricks that stick out of the floor.
Please Leave comments! And if you give me a rating of 3 or under, please tell me why so I can fix it in my next creation!!!!

So am I allowed to use the ballista design or what?
Oh, sorry! Sure you can! I may recreate it sometime, actually. |

Great work on the whole thing! I really like the ballista design – do you mind if I use that in some of my future MOCs? I’ll give you full credit for the design and post a link to this page. As I looked at this MOC in more detail, I noticed the guard up on the wall (right-hand side) who was almost hit by a ballista bolt looks like he just had his life flash before his eyes. Speaking of which, would a typical ballista really be able to punch a hole like that in a typical castle wall? I would think you’d need some sort of catapult-like device for that. Maybe John Wolfe knew of a weakness in the castle’s structure. I also noticed that a couple of the Wolfpack soldiers have muskets. Oh, and the weapon that Grimfist is wielding is actually called a halberd. BTW, have you ever noticed how the protagonists have names like “GreatHelm” and the villains have names like “Grimfist”? I guess it makes it easier to tell them apart. But seriously, did John Wolfe really think he stood a chance assaulting a castle that size while commanding only 7 guys?
Also, could you check out my “Fantasy and Mythology” MOCs? http://www.mocpages.com/folder.php/58278 |

Does the ballista actually fire? Because if so, that is impressive, just like the rest of this MOC! |
