Lego gun shoots paper wasps quite accurately, fairly easy to reload.
About this creation
I got kinda bored with rubberband guns. They are great, but impractical: rubber bands are far too precious to be shot away in classroom warfare. They're supposed to be weapons, not ammunitions. The practical ammo is the paper wasp (otherwise known as paper stinger, paper pellet, paper V, etc.). It is plentiful, disposable, relatively accurate and safe, and can hurt without much effort. However, paper wasp guns seem to be too far behind rubberband guns. I've found only 2 or so Lego guns that were designed to shoot paper wasps. So, I decided to do some experiment, and this gun is the first fruit. It is robust, small (can be smuggled to, say, school), reliable. Loading is quite fast with some practice. It's easy to build too. I PROMISE I'll make instruction if more than 6 people comment. Now, some photos.
this is a more preferable trigger configuration. Looks less realistic, but more compact and easier to handle.
The gun's performance is ideal when using this kind of paper wasp (so-called the 7.62mm by my classmates). It gives a balance between damage and accuracy.

This slightly oversized ammo also works pretty well.

This smaller size of paper wasp (the "5.54 mm") stings more, but accuracy, especially over greater distance, is reduced.
Nothing explain the loading and firing better than a video.
As you have seen, the gun is pretty accurate. But you'll need some practice to aim it properly. Still, it's quite hard to aim. The best result is achieved firing from a higher platform. If only I got hold of a laser pointer...
So, that's the Lego paper wasp gun. It's only a prototype that need a lot of improvement. So, feel free to comment. If you want to use this kind of mechanism, feel free! Just give me credit. Shouldn't we all nice Lego builders? The gun is quite simple, so I'll take some photos while dismantling it and post them as instruction if I get more than 6 comments.
PS: I'm trying to build a double barreled version. And I'm wondering which category to put my guns in (you know, there are two "weapons" sections). Guess I'll just choose the bigger "Weapons" :D

awesome gun.
I've found a way to make the gun more accurate, you add a small 2 peg rod in the circular hole of the release.
to answer 'eyal sch's' question; you rip a small square out of paper (about 5cm x 5cm) and fold it in half, then again in half, etc..., until you cant fold it any more. then u put the paper wasp in the gun |

Finally, a Lego gun I can use that won't destroy my pieces and doesn't use a million parts! Thank you very much for posting this and the instructions. I have built one now and I'll customize it a bit and post it on my page along with a report of any bugs I encountered with your original version. -Freela
I really appreciate. Looking forward to it. |

That's pretty cool! And 1.5 meters would be 5 feet. How badly does it hurt? |

Dirk Honders, please write in English, not Dutch! And you can just gently tell me if your gun has already been dismantled and you can't take more photos. Being so rude doesn't work anything out! |

yes I know that it was suppost to be 4 studs. But do you see where the launching band on my gun is? it's at the bottom so you can wrap it across the peg at the top to give it more flight. if i made it exactly like yours with 3 studs wide then it wouldn't shoot. It also gives it more power scince the launching band has to strech at a bigger distance. But I will make your gun when you post instructions to see how different they shoot. |

Bohdan, I appreciate that you made instruction of my gun. But the problem is, your version is 3 studs wide. I have tried and found that this make it hard to reload and less versatile. I'll post the instruction of my gun soon, so you guys can refer to it. So stay tuned! |

Thanks, C. Very glad that you liked my creation. I'll notify you when a build a new one. SuperSniper, I'm glad that you are eager to receive instruction, but DUPLICATED COMMENTS don't count, so keep waiting, sorry :D. Jongejanssie, I think your idea is wonderful, but I don't have much time on my hand. Maybe I'll post instruction so you can make that grenade launcher, please just give me credit on the mech.
PS: SuperSniper, I'm sorry but MY comments don't count either :D |

This rocks! This gun is very cool and also very creative,an very simple. Well,i have got a great idea; what would you say of a AK74 that shoots rubberbands an has got a "grenade launcher" like this. Could you build that? Please,Hoang,at least try it. Thank you very much. Do you have a gun idea left? Than please leave him on my gun idea page. |
