It’s 10.30am at Pegchester on a freezing November morning and Zenas the old merchant has left his warm room at the Tavern and crossed the road to buy some delicious cheese and fresh bread at the local shops, before going to the forum to buy some fruit. Let’s join Zenas, he’s the one in a blue toga, latest fashion in Rome….

Zenas’ next visit is to the cheese merchant, Crassus, where he gets some of the local Pegvarian cheese, famous through out the Roman world, again he receives a warm welcome.
Crassus puts the cheese on the scales ‘is that enough Zenas?’
Zenas then goes to the shoe maker/repairer, Silas. ‘Morning sir’ ‘Morning’ (not such a warm welcome) ‘what can I do for you?’ Zenas explains that on his long trip from Roma his favourite shoes have taken a battering ‘can you repair then?’ He politely asks. ‘I’ll see what I can do, have these shoes for a today whilst I work on them’, maybe Silas is as nasty as his first grater came across….
Zenas then passes by the glass maker and makes his way to the forum to buy some fruit…..
What’s the noise upstairs? It sounds like somebody is very unwell….
Ah here’s Livia, Gustinus’ the glassmaker wife, , going upstairs ‘ I told you Decius not to eat that fish for breakfast’ she calls out to there son, who has a really bad stomach ach after eating a somewhat un-fresh fish. ‘ohhhhh’ Decius cries out. ‘I’ll have to go to Lapidus the doctor’s house and ask him for some medicine’ replies his mother.
The bones of the fish sit on the preparation area.
Livia goes round the corner to the doctors house, these are much bigger than some of the towns traders and even have room for there own idol and beautiful mosaic floors.
Gounea, Servius the doctor’s wife, is busy saying her prayers to the household idol as Livia knocks. They are soon locked down in woman’s chat so we’re leave them and take a quick tour of the last two homes in this street corner at Pegnorvaria.
Next door to Servius and Gounea is the lawyer Quintus and his wife Apollodoria (she’s out shopping), he’s spending some time in the garden.
Here’s Servius’ household idol.
Servius' slaves have started making lunch, fish, and have just gone over the road to the forum to buy some more food for lunch.
The other side of Servius and Gounea is Ambivius who is having a nice break from selling pots and pans.
Lastly we meet Naevius who is just taking some fresh flour to Flavius, which he has, collected form the local water mill.

Thanks for the comments. Pagnorvaria is fictional and based in Brittania, West of Londinium (London) and South of Camulodunum (Colchester, the first British town) on the river thames. In a few years I hope to build a more complete town! |

These look like pretty complete and accurate buildings.
I especially like LEGO houses when you can take away storey by storey to access the interiors. |
