Shogun, Mark Neumann Mech. Lego Mecha Hall of Fame Member.
About this creation
This would be Shogun. My latest mech. I feel I aught to mention, I don't usually post here in MOC pages but I feel that I can answer a lot of the questions that revolve arond my creations more effectively here. For the complete listing of my online stuff, check it outHere
The low down. I started with a new hip. It's articualte in all three axis for each leg. It also allows for torso movement on the z-axis and spine bending on the y-axis. And that's just the hip. Shogun has trademark Mark Neumann reverese knees. (really I've tried regular knees, but as Mark Sandlin was nice enough to point out, I have a problem. I'm simply incapable of it.)
Also, after Horodris and Shade I'm feeling a little smack coming from the masses that I'm getting soft. Yeah, well, let me put that to rest. Go check out Shogun and the KG "Hippy Squisher."

Let me introduce you. This is Shogun. Shogun sits right around 22" tall. Sometimes taller sometimes shorer. Funny thing, wormed joints do that.

This is the backside of Shogun, clever that no? If you look closely how many knobs can you count. I'll give you a hint, there are 22 worm geared joints. the hip alone has eight.

Please, observe the detail, the big blue things are missle pods and the red things are 2x2x2/3 dome pieces. Not helmets Keith.

Little bit of shiny spinal action here. Or is it just foil to keep the birds off?

GWWAH??? Where'd it go, cockpit closed. Some sliders were overbuilt (doubled up) inside to make for a strong yet smooth action.

A close up of he hip from (most of) the business end. (hmmmm eeeewwwww.) the knob on the leg is Y-axis rotation, the vertical is x-axis rotation and the knobs (not visible here) on the front control z-axis of the hip movement. The new flat turntable is the one that controls torso action and the knob just visible at the top of the screen is the spinal adjust.

Yes, it's unstable. Every little bit of action requires fine tuning almost every joint. The upside of the wobblyness, Shogun is very posable.

Be very thankful for your sense of balance. You have no idea.

Close up of the head. That shiny bit is chrome macoroni. Macoroni to fricion pin to 2x2 plate with technic hole on underside. The green canopy is built ontop of that plate.

The head uses quite a bit of snot work, the aft end of the head is clickhinged so that studs go in every which way to make for a round head. But still, Shogun is a 'block head'. hahahahaaha....ahhhh I feel better.

Close up of the leg. What's notable here is the shock action. the shock mounts are dynamic. That is to say as the extention of the leg goes beyond what the shock will allow, the support gives away, allowing movement. As the joint is compressed the brace is locked down and the shock provides support. The answer to the question in your brain is yes, I am a leg man.

Front side of the hips, those knobs are the z-axis control center. And remember, keep your hands off my knobs!

Another striking pose. It's kind of hard to see but the legs have all kinds of action and still allow this behemoth of a mech standing. Makes for for some fun wu-tang but kicking action.

Among the armamment is two guns on each arm, two rocket packs, two main missle packs and two shoulder mount secondary missle systems.

Ooooooooh. Opposable thumb. Check it, this mech can pass the roadside DWI test of touching his thumbs to fingers, other popular poses are the fist, and the ever popular "bird" signal.

That there rifle would be the KG "Hippy Squisher." In honor of our favorite Smack artiste'. Please try to remember that this is all in minifig scale. Whoops did you just wet yourself?

Getting soft indeed. Just remember the homeworld for the Snow Leopard clan is a cold, cold place for an invasion. BTW, Keith, the Iron Reich order for 3000 units of "Hippy Squishers" is shipping to the puke colored skies homeworld of the Reich.

If you see this at a show, DO NOT try this. If you do I will hurt you.

NO really. Do you understand what kinds of forces are happening here? The body is actually tilted a good 20' off center, but since the gun is so heavy the body is standing straight. Also, I shant discuss what's happenig to the legs.

See the legs are off center. Lots of fun to play with. Makes for organic mecha.

Ok, for scale. See the minifig, good. See Shade, that's a small mech.

Thee's Shogun for comparison. Yes Shogun is a larger version of Shade. I actually built Shade primarily for the purposes of tesing new joint tech. I just sort of "supersized" it.

Ahhhh, a family pic. That Yellow creation is Horodris. The Minifig is still there for scale. Is he frightened? Heck no, who do you think drives these things....

KGHS pic two, Yes it is in minifig scale. No I won't hesitate to knock off 3vil forces with it.

A nice background pic if you want it. Hope you enjoyed. Dig the rest of my stuff in the BS gallery. Also I have a few things in the Lego Mecha Hall of Fame you might enjoy. Thanks for looking.

quite amazing, with supreme smack. any guidance on how to create a gear box would be greatly appreciated, as i am building a mecha for an upcoming contest, and it seems a bit big for the stand by of clicky joints. please email me with any advice you could give if you find you have the time |

Hey Mark, I'm glad you're doing MOCpages now. It's nice to get picture-specific commentary, especially with your mechs because they're so complex. |

Shogun is rad. He is rad because he is...is..rad. I see by the head design that you are hanging around with Sophie alot. Be careful around that guy. I'm not suggesting anything but...just be careful. Please Mark, be careful. Did I ever mention that Shogun is rad? |

Your mechs are awesome. The sliding cockpit is genius. But Keith's jokes are funnier. Given, it is hard to not be afraid, let alone funny, when writing about something this jaw-dropping, but I think you should stick to making crazy awesome mechs and leave the funny to Keith. |
