Round 1 match-ups for "The MocOlympics"
Oh yes, there will be blood. It’s GO TIME!
About this creation
First things first. I DID NOT BUILD THIS The Wheel of Death was built by Dave Shaddix and the pics were e-mailed to me. All comments on the wheel should be directed to Dave.

Now then… The time has finally arrived! Below you will find first, a list of the categories and a description of each (what the rules are and so on) and second, the round 1 match ups.

For those of you not involved as contestants, allow me to explain how this worked (consider this your “Fourth Wall Commentary” for this post). As much fun as it would have been to have a full size version of Dave’s creation, it just wasn’t feasible to take a 30 foot wheel and travel the globe, strap you people to it and spin you till you puked to figure out a fair way to match you up. That’s why each contestant was e-mailed a bulk letter and asked to respond. The order that I received the responses in is the order in which they were paired up. I was shoved in the mix by having the judges (3 of ‘em) send me a number between 1 and 11. The total of those numbers served as my slot for the competition (Which happened to add up to 22 so I just pretended that I was the 22nd person to respond to the e-mail). The order of the categories was decided before ANY e-mails were sent and then that order was sent to the judges so I had no idea which category I’d be competing in. So, now that you guys know that everything was both completely fair and random… on with the important stuff.

First, allow me to introduce you to your special guest celebrity judges for the competition. I have nothing to do with who wins, it’s all in their hands and their word is LAW. The judges are:

Emperor (always “Randy” for it) Ludgonious

Brian (“I’d Abdul her”) Kescenovitz

Mark (Always with a S.Cowell on his face) Kelso

(For those of you over seas, those were “American Idol” jokes with the names) These guys will be voting on each match to determine the winners and who moves on to the next round. They will be putting their votes in your comment section on each entry.

The Categories: (in no particular order)

Of course in the few days since I finalized the list I’ve come up with more categories that could have been added (post apoc, steampunk or Harry Potter (just for you Sterling) just to name a few). But hindsight is 20/20 and no one (not even Kelso) is perfect.

Castle: We’re not looking for “Eggplant Deep” here. Actually, it’s closer to a castle vig if you will. You could build a tower, a portcullis, maybe even a dungeon if you’d like. Maybe a great hall full of partiers, who knows? Do a battle if you want, I don’t care. You will be judged on your interpretation of this and how you executed it. I use the word “vig” but don’t take that literally. You can make it ANY size that you want.

Mech: No “Schism” needed for this. We’re looking more for like hardsuit or walker sized stuff. If you can produce some monstrosity in 14 days… more power to ya!

Classic Space: Just like it sounds. Of course you don’t have to use “classic” pieces but just something that looks like it came from the 80’s.

Short Story: Come up with a little tale to entertain us. You will be judged on both story concept and build for this so, be creative.

“You know what they say…”: Take a popular saying and translate it into LEGO. Be sure your saying is pretty well known and not TOO localized (for instance, those of you from Tennessee know what a “chigger” or “skeeter” is but someone in Australia wouldn’t). You will be judged on creativity here (how you brought across the concept) as well as build.

Whateverscape: Landscape, cityscape, planetscape… you choose. As big or as small as you’d like.

Microscale: We don’t need any “Invisible Hands” here. But take a ship/car/tank/submarine or whatever else you can think of and run with it. We’re looking for more than ten studs but less than say… 100.

HALO: Yeah, I said it. Time for those of us that put this oft overused category in its place to either put up or shut up. Sharpie modified mstr ch33fz don’t count.

Guess the movie: Take a scene from a movie and brick it to bricky life. I was originally going to say no “Star Wars” but thought that most of you have a ton of clones and whatnot. Just remember, you’ll be judged on originality as well as build so try to avoid obvious choices. We don’t actually have to guess the movie so be sure to tell us what it is in the description.

Cyborg Racers: You know the drill. Make sure you follow the original Ocean Guidelines. That means NAME IT AFTER A SONG! (so many people forget to do that…) Follow the other rules too, there’s more than just that one.

And now for the REALLY important stuff, the match-ups! As stated above, this is the order that the e-mail replies came in. I broke the matches up into 2 brackets of 16 players each (without names attached at the time when I designed it). Those brackets will compete against each other until we are down to the final 2 players from each bracket. Then those two will go at it to determine the all time MOCoff/MocOlympics champion! And now, the players in round one with their respective categories are…

IMPORTANT NOTE TO PLAYERS:
Your entry should be titled “MocOlympics round 1 (your name) vs (name of opponent)” In the opening line of the description, please state what category you are competing in. And finally, please create a link to your opponent’s home page.

That’s it boys and girls. May the best Moccer win! You have 14 days from NOW to get your round 1 creation built and posted. You can post a day or two earlier but unless you’ve coordinated that with your opponent, DO NOT post any earlier! NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED! If you’re late, YOU’RE OUT!

The players know all the little rules like "No Bricklink orders" and "No Photoshop" and the details that go with them. The rest of the stuff is boring and you've already read too much as it is...

Alright people… Let’s Get MOCCING!

Boy, I knew making Kelso a Judge was a mistake. We’ll be lucky if he comes back at all from his little field trip. Maybe him and his little hippy friends will be picked up by a flying saucer out there in the woods, and return to space to become one with the cosmos. Artists…Pff!!!

UPDATE!!! For those of you looking for answers, here's the best I've got right now. 3 of the contestants were late and after confering with the judges, those contestants I'm sorry to say, have been disqualified. There are three matches that have yet to be judged by Mark Kelso. Kelso in on vacation right now and will judge these three matches as soon as he returns. As soon as that is done, give me a couple of days to get everything sorted and round two will get rolling. Any other questions post them here and I will answer them as soon as I can. ~ Chris.

Okay, life is good. I finished (wow, that was fast), and photographed it, and am about ready to post it. Could I have Rubix Cube's e-mail, so that I can contact him? I don't have any way to talk to him, (he has no MOCs to comment on), and I would like to try and get it up soon. Thanks for your help, Phipson, and congrats on going to the 2nd bracket.

Gnah! I'm annoyed! I had wanted to do the "Burn the Witch" scene from Monty Python, but decided against it. Then I started to do the end scene from I*%0#@t, and do not have enough pieces. I am starting to do my 3rd idea for a movie. Wow, guess that movie is harder than I thought it would be.

Update to the update that was the first update... never mind. Heather LEGO Girl has had to drop out of the competition. No, I won't tell you why but it was a REAL reason and not just a "I don't wanna" thing. Her replacement is going to be Silent-sigfig. He is already aware of the situation and there will be no problems with him posting by the deadline. Good luck sigfig and welcome aboard. ~ Chris.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE - Due to unforseen events, one of the players has had to pull out of the competition (not saying who just yet, you'll get that info later). There is no problem however, I have an alternate in place and that person will be taking over the vacant spot in the competition. So, what does that mean? One of you is about to get a new opponent. I'll update again as soon as it's all set. ~ Chris.

im done with my entry! boy, do i wonder what Crimso is entering with! by the way if i enter mine the evening the day before i am supposed to enter, it might already be afternoon the day where were supposed to enter for you, because we have different time zones. if i enter it the day i am supposed to enter, it might already be too late, so please note that if im too early or too late, its only because of the time zone differences. i will also be showing the time when i post it with my time so that you can see that im not too late in my time, even if i am in yours, and i hope you wont kick me out because of that. please respons~Ed

Heather... No rooster huh? Since you're in the Pacific Northwest, you are bound to have nocturnal birds of prey with hawk-like beaks, claws, and large heads with front-facing eyes. Perhaps rocking out with a pair of these would suffice. Cheers!

Ha! The anti-HALO bandwagon cracks me up. It is certainly a much more popular and fashionable trend than actually building HALO MOCs ever was. Way to throw down, Chris, by including it. No real deadline minute Garth. Just as long as it's posted by Saturday evening (USA Saturday guys, that's about Sunday Morning for most of our overseas players). Just for arguments sake, let's use New York time. That's where Sean Kenny is and he IS mocpages after all. If you guys want to post early, all you need to do is coordinate with your opponent. If both of you are ready to post this Monday, then by all means, go for it. YOU MUST COODINATE WITH YOUR OPPONENT TO POST EARLY! Other than that, knock yourself out.

Hey guys, all of the categories for ALL of the matches (all the way to the finals) were predetermined before ANY of the names were put in. It's been designed so that no one will have to play in the same category twice (Which was more of a headache to achieve than you'll ever know). Anyway... Now, how the heck am I gonna build a mech?
