A tutorial for you to learn how to make lightsaber effects in five easy steps.
About this creation
Okay, for those who have read my webcomic "Jedi Renegade" and asked: "How the HECK do ya make those great lightsaber glows, man?!" I give you the answer with this page. Here you can learn how to create movie-like lightsaber blades using Adobe Photoshop 7.0. For the tutorial, I'll use a picture from Calum Wilding's wonderful "Darth Vader's Apprentice" MOC.
Step 1 -What you have to do first, is open AP 7.0 and open the image you want to edit.
Step 2 -Go to the "lasso", right click and select "polygonal lasso", and then draw the area you want to be the blade around the original LEGOŽ blade. This should look like this:
Step 3 -When done, select the brush, and fill the selected area in white. You should end up with this:
Step 4 -Now, select the lasso again, right click the selected area and click on "Deselect".
Step 5 -And finally, select the brush again, set the brush mode to "Lighten", and paint the desired color around the white blade (I'll show it here with red, since Darth Vader's apprentice is a Sith Lord).
This is it! You know how to create your own lightsaber glows. May the Force be with you!

What type of brush setting should I have it on?
I have Adobe Photoshop 8 and I haven't found a brush setting that makes the right glow. |

Hey nice tutorial, there is an easier way. You get a solid paint brush the width of the blade, click at the bottom of the blade, making a single circle. Then hold shift and click at the top of the blade and it will make a perfectly straight line from the bottom to top of the blade with well rounded edges. Then do the same thing with a fuzzy red (or color of your choice) brush set to lighten, as you said, and it will get a better lightsaber in my opinion. This only works in photoshop as far as i know. |
