Castle Masters 2
About this creation
For the second edition of castle masters, I'm focusing on builders that have been around for awhile and most who haven't been active for some time. Most of these builds were done between 2005-2006. The styling has changed drastically in this time period, although we owe many of the modern techniques to innovations developed in this era. You can tell the difference in building styles because these guys generally don't use SNOT, tend to use Lego castle wall elements extensively, and BURPS are almost always left as BURPS.

Like the first Castle Masters, I'm limiting the list to ten builders.

Christian Treczoks from Germany, found at Brickshelf or 100Steine . His gigantic tree and tudor style is really impressive.

Joel Midgley, builder of Castle BrickMoor. Another feature really used extensively by the oldstyle builders is hinges opening up rooms and castles for playability. Now-a-days, style is generally preferred over functionality. MOCpage Link or with more pictures at Brickshelf Link

Jonathon Eric Hunter is a builder for legoland California, and this castle is on display there. I saw it in person in 2007. MOCpage Link.

Jacob C and Katar Castle. MOCpage Link

Eric Brok is/was a lego legend. Designed the MarketStreet set and one of the first if not the first to use the curved wall. The above castle is called Estuary Stronghold and can be found at Lego on My Mind The Stronghold was built eight years ago in 2000.

Steve DeCrĉmer is another legend. Finalist for legoland california master builder challenge and brick journal contributor. The above display was from Brickworld 2005. His webpage is a bit frustrating if you don't know your lego trivia: Link

Dave Ishak is in competition with Bob Carney for building the biggest castles. Greystone above is quite an impressive display of bricks and looks like it takes up the space of a 2-car garage. Dave can be found at his MOCpage

Next is a Japanese builder who I'm going to call Hachi. I don't know much more other than there are about 20 great looking lego castles on this webpage. Link One of the other things that have changed from 2005 to 2008 is the backgrounds. Typically now just a white or solid backdrop is used, whereas a lot of the older builds have cheesy cartoons. Also has a brickshelf Link

Giorgio Chronas is an annual threat at the Classic-Castle Contests, winning several times. The Church of Holy St Legostino is one of my favorites. Link

The final builder is Tania Baixinho, a FFOL. For some reason, I think that FFOL are better at layering in the details than the fat fingered guys. Also, I think they're better at shopping. Personally I feel bad when I buy a lot of legos, but I'm sure the gals are so used to shopping that they enjoy it. I really like how the above build called winterfell turned out. Tania can be found on Brickshelf Link

I found this build somewhere on the internet. It is of the Roussanou Monastery in Meteora, Greece. If anyone knows who the builder is could you send a link? Thanks.

Ah, Mystery Solved!! This is a builder with the alias Diddi. Link on brickshelf (where else) . So I guess you guys got 11 instead of 10. Must be your lucky day.

All excellent, and a bit humbling! Hey, I think the monastery MOC is of either Varlaam or the Great Monastery (literal translation), not Roussanou.

Okay, I'm annoyed. You know the cool one, with the cool rock walls and the annoying link? Well, I just spent about 10 minutes of my life trying to find it on there, and still did not see it. Oh, well, I guess I learned that there are lego nesquick bunny out there... Oh, and Phipson, you know how you found that huge piece of gum on your chair, well, there is a funny story...

Nice history lecture Professor. The only one in decades I didn't sleep through. You ever think about becoming a teacher at a local school? You could make learning fun! Oh, never mind. Then you'd have to put up with people like kelso. ~ Chris.
