F-90 "Cyclone" (Multi-role Fighter Aircraft)
“No compromises” is the essence of KAAI´s most recent fighter project built in series, a large, massive multi-role delta-winged aircraft designated as “F-90”, code name “Cyclone”. Due to the delta wing body generating a maximum of lift in combination with the extremely steep wing sweep, the F-90 is able to fly at speeds lower than Mach 0.5 as well as speeds beyond Mach 3. Two giant jet intakes underneath the leading edges “feed” the enormous engines, which catapult the aircraft to the take-off speed of 320km/h within only 750 meters of runway. The standard armament consists of 6 to 10 laser- and heat-guided, multifunctional state-of-the-art missiles and two gatling canons underneath the leading edges. Up to 3 additional drop tanks can be mounted to the F-90, providing necessary long-range capacities without an earlier need of in-air refuelling. Instead of the drop tanks, 2 to 3 heavy, guided bombs or four more missiles can be fixed underneath the wings and the rear end of the fuselage. The F-90´s potential payload of weapons and the considerable speed range turn it into a very versatile aircraft: The “Cyclone” provides air superiority in dogfights; its speed capacities allow its role as an excellent state-of-the-art interceptor as well as the performance of air-to-ground attacks. About this creation
Some nice features of the aircraft are based on the overall functional design – everything works, folds and retracts: wing flaps, the rear side rudder of the vertical stabilizer and the landing gear. Even the landing gear flaps work, covering/closing the shafts while the landing gear is completely retracted and looking pretty sweet while the plane is on the ground or in the process of landing.
The cockpit is quite elevated and offers a high degree of visibility to the pilot; it can be reached by the mobile stairs which came with the original Lego jetliner LC-7893. The nose cone, the intakes and the angle of the empennage looking quite sleek, together with the studless wings, give the F-90 a pretty fast appearance. I just really like how everything turned out this time, especially in comparison to my first fighter plane, the “Thunderspecter”
for which I had to make too many compromises due to a lack of good pieces.

Credits go to Vincent Desrochers whose awesome “Avro CF-105 Arrow 203”
featured the use of the little “surf board stick” as the basis of a functional rear rudder which I used as such as well!

So yeah, have fun checking out the pictures and tell me what you think about it!:)

The "airport bitches":) haha I´m just joking - that´s what I´m right now for as long as I´m a student. Fortunately, at FRA they only make me do "animal work" every once and a while - most of the time, I´m a driver on the apron...

The empennage / vertical stabilizer which I really like. For the use of the "surfboard stick" piece, all credits go to Vincent Desrochers who applied it at his “Avro CF-105 Arrow 203”

Very cool, looks kind of like a mirage meets f-16. I like the smoothness of the whole plane.

Amazing design. But I doubt it would fly over mach.3 people are forgetting how hard it is for jet engine's to do that.Unless the plane is extremely aerodynamic like the SR-71 wich reachs 2,200mph

Quoting Tom Simon Having just now seen the earlier planning stage of this build, I am not at all disappointed. I was just reading Firas' comments down below and agree with all he said. This is one of those builds that if you see an icon of it and were not already warned it was LEGO, you would think "Oh look, a picture of a real plane."
Thanks a lot, Tom! This creation is still "alive", standing over here on a book shelf... I´m already having plans for something newer and better, though. There are a couple of things I would have done differently about the plane, but it´s easier to make a completely new model rather than improving the old one. I am glad to hear it looks realistic, especially the title pic serving as some sort of an icon... The flaw about the title pic: the backround looks bad. At the time, I didn´t pay enough attention yet to that...

TO LEGO MAN: You did a pretty good job on your version of the F-90!!! - there are a lot of key features which identify it as such. It´s so crazy, you´re the first one ever I think who has rebuilt one of my creations! :) I´m glad that my (ficticious) KAAI F-90 "Cyclone" was an inspiration for you, and in the same time it makes me kind of proud:) Thank you very much! Best regards, Steffen

Quoting Connor Young Man I love your work! I'm in to making lego planes myself but nothing as good as you do. Some of your panes are inspiring me to make somthing like your fighter. I can't wait to see what it ends up looking like =D.
Thank you very much, Connor! I´m very "flattered" to get such a nice compliment on my creations. I think I will keep the F-90 for a long time without dismantling it, given the fact that people seem to really like it, and that I like it a lot myself. I want it to be part of a future airfield layout!:) But I might work on the nose section a bit, which I admit could be improved. My current project is the giant freighter "KAAI C-3X", did you mean that one? Cause I´m not planning yet on building a new fighter yet. Anyways, thanks a lot for the great comment. Steffen

Brilliant -- everything you need in a fighter jet. It looks sleek and fast from every angle, and carries an impressive load of underwing ordinance. The transition between the studs-up fuselage and the SNOT wing makes it look like a convincing blended wing-body aircraft. Awesome job.

Personnally i don't like this type of wing shape (i like the same common boring shape lol)but it works well as it flows off from the nose quite nicely. In a all a fierce lookin jet.

AWESOME!!! It looks sooo much better than the WIP. the gentle decrease of the fuselage is cool, as are the weapons. The overall profile was drastically improved. Im speechless, this is great! Excellent job all around!!! It seems as though you creations get nearly completed, then drastically changed and improved. I have the exact same strategy.

I love the details involved here! The only gripe I have is the nose area. I think if you reworked it, it would be even better. The front landing gear is good, but I know you can make it even better as well, judging from the quality of this!
