My newest "Halo 3 version" of the Warthog is not all that different from
my Halo 2 version (scroll to the bottom of the page to see that one), but
here's a list of the minor improvements I've made in case you can't find
1. It's now sand green instead of bright green (you probably spotted that
one). Sadly the 2x3 wedge plates that I had on the hood next to the
windshield are not available in sand green, so the shape around the
windshield doesn't look as good anymore...
2. The chaingun is now vastly improved, made from the one I built for my
Spartan minifigs. I meant to take off that decal around the end, but I
forgot. *smacks forehead*
3. The "tusks" are now silver and the hubcaps are grey instead of white.
4. More coloration cleanups, and a few enhancements to the sturdiness that
you can't really see.
A lot of people were probably hoping for a complete redesign of the
vehicle, but hey, I'm still satisfied with this one myself. So uh, sorry.
Oh, and I flattened the lights out a bit so they'd look better. The chain
on the chaingun is made from those mini-tread pieces. The handles are made
that way so that the Elite can hold onto them (they're needed for him to
stand upright there, unlike the Spartan figs).
You know, despite the popularity of these faded-looking colors right now,
I still prefer the old bright colors myself... Call it the purist in me.
Regardless, I hope you guys like it!
When I first started building my original Halo LEGO creations, the
Warthog was the obvious vehicle to make. So on October 30, 2003, I
This is actually the second version I posted, sporting new "tusks" and
other details. Still, definitely not a masterpiece of LEGO... but it was
enough to get me some attention on several websites and magazines.
However, as Halo became more popular with the online LEGO building
community, many Warthogs started popping up that were unquestionably
better than mine. But I can deal with a little competition. So, more
than a year later, I finally completed and posted my new version on
December 21, 2004.
This new 'hog combines many of my own original ideas with some new ones
I came up with, while also borrowing a bit from other builders online,
including these two Warthogs by a guy called Streak: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=23338
Those little Explorien and Magnetron themed Warthogs remain some of my
favorite LEGO Warthogs to this day.
One of the main things I "borrowed" from Streak was his rubber band
method of vehicle suspension. When your LEGO bounces on its wheels, it
just adds a whole new level of coolness and realism to the model.
One thing LEGO purists will immediately notice is the strange
windshield. No, it's not a LEGO piece - it's just a shape I cut out of
some plastic packaging and attached to the vehicle. Now, I know this
could be considered cheating, but let's face it: if LEGO ever made an
official Warthog set, the first thing they'd do is make a new windshield
piece, because they have none that fit the design well! Also, the
plastic I used is technically still a LEGO product - because it's
actually cut out of the packaging to a pair of LEGO Star Wars Minis.
But if you LEGO purists are still going "hrmph!" then just keep
scrolling - I have a version with an all-LEGO-elements windshield
further down. Not nearly as good, I think, but it works.
The LAAG (Light Anti-Aircraft Gun) turret on my old Warthog looked like
crap. I think the new one is much better. Some people still complain
things... for example, the about the barrels being too far apart.
However, you have to understand the way I build: I like to include play
features. To me, a LEGO rotary cannon that doesn't bloody rotate
isn't accomplishing the play value that a LEGO should aim for. Hey, it's
just my opinion. It's a toy, so I like to give it play features.
One strange feature of multiplayer Halo 2 over Halo 1 is that you can
board an enemy-controlled Warthog. It can make for some decidedly funny
situations... if you're crazy enough to actually try driving a Warthog
in multiplayer at all, that is. It's rarely a successful tactic.
Here is the LEGO purist windshield, o ye of little faith! As I said,
it's not great - especially not with those huge gaps there. But it's
still better than my original design. I tried and tried to find a good
all-LEGO part solution to the problem, and this was the best I could
come up with. I prefer my custom shield myself.
I never found the vehicles in Halo 2 as fun as the original, personally.
They have much better traction now... which makes them much less fun. I
want to bounce, dangit! And is it just me, or does the Warthog in Halo 2
suddenly sound like some kind of battery-powered remote-control toy?
It's got no ROAR to it. It just sort of buzzes.
One thing I DID like in Halo 2, however, is the Gauss Cannon version of
the Warthog. It's even more fun than the rocket-launcher version that
was added for multiplayer in the PC version of Halo 1!
I think my Gauss Cannon turned out perfectly on the LEGO version. In
fact, I'm pretty darn satisfied with the whole thing. I don't know if
its awesomeness carries over through the pictures quite as well as in
real life. When I first showed the real thing to Ryan, his response was
"It's perfect, isn't it?" I'm not saying it IS perfect, no, but... it's
pretty dang cool.
If you ever got the ODSTs that land with you on Delta Halo to survive
long enough to actually join you in riding the Warthog... then you are
much better at babysitting your Marines than I am. Of course, the only
difficulties Ryan and I would ever even consider playing on are
Heroic or Legendary, so maybe that has something to do with it.
"What? Who the heck are you?!"
Please note that I enjoy playing the Half-Life games as well... too bad
THEIR drivable vehicles are just welded-together piles of scrap.
If you wanted to build the Warthog yourself, here are a few images of my
model somewhat disassembled that should help you. Good luck!
The Warthog... it shall forever be remembered as perhaps the most fun to
drive vehicle in the history of gaming.
"See that pedal on the left? That's the BRAKE!" - Marine (Halo 1)
Fantastic! I know that it must have been very hard for you to build. I know what all the inner workings are and I must say I am impressed. I know the inners of the Warthog because I bought the instructions and built the warthog except the only difference is that my one is arctic. Please check it out. :) 400 out of 5.

Wow! Thast awsome! Can you make instrcutions?~Soap
hey do you have a parts list or instructions on how to build your warthog, cause i think it's really cool! plus id like to build one, so if you do id like to see it please. great halo products by the way!
coool rock on scorp plz have a look at my creations you inspired me to make lego halo
im your biggest fan nova refuge is awsome game shatered realaty is ace halo is brillent and the back to the futer car is 10/10
Well I have never played Halo but this I realy like. the only thing I don't like is the wind shield I have no problem with it not being lego since after all lego is just a toy and you can do what you want but the reason I don't like it is because I think it looks a little cheep and since you can get the same shape using lego parts. But the rest is just realy cool.
You have some of the best halo creations out there. I even figured out how to build your warthog after about 20 minutes of frusturation! Dont worry, I gave all credit of the design to you but I added my own custom turret and color scheme. You should check it out if you have time. I think that vehicles should change color in multipalyer to make them more recognizeable to avoid friendly fire, right?
I think it's the fact that they think it's so awesome that they don't know what to rate it, or the majority of those people who find it don't have a MOCpages account
and this guy is right the Half-Life vehicles are welded pieces of scrap, but the good thing is that they're not welded pieces of cr*p (please excuse my language it had to be said)
Whats more ridiculous then how cool this MOC is, is how only like .02% or .002% of people who have seen it even bother to vote. I mean like 228,000 visits, and what, only 440 took the time to rate it. Sadness surrounds me.
Awesome! i love the turret and the wind shield and everything! have you ever thoughten of making a heratic leader decal? or the heratic elites and grunts? well that would be awesome if you did man. any way great job!
Awesome! and it is true that the halo warthog is the best vehicle ever driven in video gaming history. but I've always wondered what would happen if you were to put the halo warthog into half-life2 physics
Hey Scorp (i hope you don´t mind if i call you scorp). Sorry, but i had to copy your Warthog and mongoose for myself, your designs are simply the best i´ve seen in my whole life. I like your Scorpion Tank as well but i don´t have paypal and its impossibel to rebuilt it only with your pics...-.- Im sorry to say that i´ve seen better ghosts and banshees around MOCpages than yours, make at least a new banshee. Greez Ben.
I really love your warthog and if you can I would aprreciate if you can give me directions. I will tell you my email address when you contact me thank you and keep doing a superior job on your lego creations.
How does the windsheild stay in place? And, Areetsa C, you're pretty much the biggest anti-lego-customizing person I've seen on MOCpages. Customizing is better. Lego decaling is an art which anti-customizers can't master.
Holy #$@! this has a lot of views! It is a pretty neat little thing and is very close to an the actual warthog. I have an intense loathing of halo MOCs but I will comment on a good MOC no matter what it is. It must have taken a bit to figure out the perfect design I bet. Anyways, nice work! If ya got a sec I appreciate all comments and ratings on my stuff, thanks.
I am Nate Falslev and once went by Streak on BrickShelf. I was looking back at the things I used to do and came across this. Your M12 is great with the custom windscreen! I am happy to have been able to provide some ideas and inspiration and appreciate the credit and link.
the best even though i think that your warthog just isn't the right color no-offensse. but i really have a question.where did you get the cockpit or wind screen (whatever its called) for the second warthog where there is dead grunts
ernie: If you're going to say "hey, you can print those images on your site without paying," yes, I know that, but the results will look blurry, pixilated, oddly-colored, and terrible. If you want prints with bright colors and sharp lines, you have to order the decals.
Hey scorp, love your work. Ive been a big fan of your creations for a few years, and theyre still amazing, but theres some new competition coming in. Maybe its time for a V3? That would be fun to see. Come check out my stuff, someone said my warthog was as good as yours! :P
awsome, man, and I thing too, that the warthog on halo 2,makes an idiot motor sound,it likes a remote controlling car!(I play halo 2 online).
but,i thing that the warthog isnt the better vechicle, but ghost is.it doesnt means that I dont like the warthog, actually, I use it a lot!!
Hey Scorp, this warthog is one, or possibly the best warthog I have ever seen. It is about 90% accurate to the game. Also I have bought some of your decals in the Alien Invasion Seires. I recomend that most people should get some.
OOOOHHHHH!!!!!!!! Cool! If it was on a cool scale of the rest of these warthogs of 1-10 I'd rate it at 425!!!It's too bad that I only have the 4 wheels to create this model.your right, the second and third versions were beter than the first one.can you please give some step by step instructions though?how much did it cost to build it(other than the winsheild)?I really like this model.(LOL halo ce dude got draged)
Can you send me complete instructions plz? I've been trying to create a a suspension configuration for my hog, but every time i do, and use it, the pilots go flying out of the warthog, and it just completley breaks down.
this is awesome, but one problem, which is with ALL hogs, not just yours, is that no-one can make a three barelled minigun, but i have molded one. check my page under halo, it is my first one, and you will see it, if you want one i would happily give, if i could have instructions for your hog... sound gud? (plz review my stuff in return) jay
Amazing. With great suspension and that patented windshield, it tops all other 'hog models out there. If i had the nessecary pieces, i'd have built my own ages ago.
Only one issue: it could use a decal or two but that doesn't drag it down whatsoever. 5/5
I love this hog, I started with yours to make mine; however, I doubt anyone would be able to tell now. The thing about it is that it is original, and it is the base of almost all of the HOGs here on MOCpages. However, I think it is time for version three. What really won me is the gauss turret, pure awesome.
Hmph... Ya, the warthog's good, but you deleted my other two reviews because they told you that cutting and Brickarms weren't LEGO. So, you haven't told me how they are, so please do so. And, if you delete this review, I will feel very offended and show everyone that some of your building strategies aren't truly LEGO and should not be called so. Like I said, prove me wrong!

that is the awsomist warthog ive seen!! p.s wut printing service?just wanna no.
Hey justin, this is probably the best Warthog of its time, the one that set the standard for all modern 'hogs. However we are at the close of its third year, how about another installment, like with your ghost?
congrats again for moc of the day. your warthog truly ispiered how my latest warthog came to be. now i'm not saying that you have to, but if you could you should try to do a few modifactions to the warthog to make it look mare "halo 3-ish". i mean to say this as only a mention that no matter what, there is always room for improvement!
Thanks for your review on my Hornet, I look forward to seeing yours. Great 'hog, The wheels would look better in grey, and the turret seems somewhat too big. On the whole, however, it's fantastic. Congrats on MOC of the day 28/11/07.
Sorry, but I do not play Halo. This is VERY cool, weather I play it or not. It did inspire me to go and look up what the real thing looks like. My only concern is that the side needs to jet out a little more. Besides that (and I dont play, so I could be mistaken) this is WAY COOL!!!!!!
Those Are So Awsome!! All of your stuff is so awsome!! It would be sweet if on SaberScorpion you made some instructions for the 'Hog. And if you could take a look at some of my creations that would be AWSOME!(some things you might recognize though)
yeah hi i think i may have reveiwed this before once or twice anyway its cool it seems competition has pushed you to give life to a bloody good hog (if u have any spre time ccould u o plse check out my civil hog it could compare not colour wise though keep up the good building )...
Hey there Justin, again sorry about the mess-up about the pillar of autumn...Anyway, I just realized that i have never given this creation a review! As well as being one of my favorite warthogs, it is also one of the most creative and inspiring I have yet to see. I just want to thank you personally for the involuntary help your work gave me while I bore away at what was once the concept of my own warthog. Even if I didn't take much from your design physically, it gave me something that I could compete with. I believe that you once said that when you first began building halo, you were lazy, because there was no competition. If anything, I hope my design proves to everyone that a bit of competition is a good thing and can produce spectacular results. Now that I have delivered what I consider to be the design that drives your version 2 into the ground, I cant wait to see your next version, that is if you make one of course....This is not a challenge so dont feel threatened, I simply wouldn't mind to see my design get flattened by another's so that I have some good competition, lol.
dude its freakin awesome so are all your creations but can you send the instructions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
p.s its a pity you saw lego pieces to make a creation thats the only thing. but other wise its cool!! =)
I allways like you work. Good job! hey, could you reveiw my hog?
and here's a somthing I need help with, how do you put sub captions (writing) under the pics? I cant seam to do that. :P kinda supid hu?
I am in the first processes or creating a Halo movie and i was impressed by your windshield design. I know you said that you used a starwars mini set plastic. I have one and was wondering what you did to make it fit. I would greatly appreciat it if you helped me in my "adventure". Thank you. Beautiful Warthog BTW.
This very good. I've been trying to figure out how to build one of these but I just can't figure out the design. Also on your website you have an energy sword, could you email me and tell me how to make one?
Wow. This is an awesome warthog. So are your other creations. Simply amazing. If you could, can you review my warthogs? Your input would be greatly appreciated.

This is the best out there! i like how you did the front and the windshield is very accurate! the gun is very good but kind thick as in front to back. come check out mine.i will have a new one.I also think that the side of the windshield is good. Not exactly minifig scale though.I also like how you did the front and the usage of borok teeth. WAY WAY WAY better than you first one! i also like how you constructed the back gunner area. Once again a very good moc.
Well, after this getting MOC of the day, I thought I might as well review it, excellent work Justin, I really like that windshield, the only and ONLY thing, is that the LAAG could be at little smaller, but overall, 10/10.
Well, I do think your Warthog is very good. There's no doubt about that...even though I loathe Halo with a passion. lol
But I'm going to have to agree with some of the other reviewers in that you really need to be more modest about this stuff. It doesn't really matter who was "first" or who's the "best." The main reason you have over 20,000 hits is because you have the Halo name backing your model up. It's turned into a sick craze like Pokemon once was. Something like my school bus will probably never see that many hits in 5 years, not that I care.
Please don't build to compete. Instead, build for the sake of having fun.
I agree with J.T. I have yet to see what the hubbub is all about, even after visiting that forum thingy. Nothing really to freak out over, just a whole ton of average MOCs, decent color schemes, simple building techniques, and a mediocre gaming craze. There's nothing really extraordinary about all these creations, really.
cudos to you scorp, amazing as always. Also, in halo the warthogs have winches, does yours have a winch? i cant tell from the pics .I like how you noticed the tusks, but than again, what is a warthog without tusks?
Well done ,Your the one that got me into building Halo minifigs ,and after building my own warthog(which I destroyed after a few weeks)know how hard it is. P.S.You die so easy on halo 2 in a warthog on Legendary.
It's very good. My only complaint is the wheels. They're big enough, but they're out of place. My advice is to take one of those freestyle wheels and put one of those flat discs on it(like mine). Then slap a wheel decal on it. That would look great and its not impossible, especially for you and your decal making "expertise". I do like the custom windshield too. It looks alot better than the actual lego pieces you used. Just change the wheels and yours will be even more the best.
I haven't even thought of building a warthog! thanks to you i am going to my rooom to make mucho models of the M12 LRV i really like youre wind sheild did you start it from scratch?
AWESOMO VIKING POWER <--- (<(''<)
have you ever built an elite? if you do use the martian sets!
Well cool, I like. I'm waiting for the day though that everyone has exhausted all designs for a Warthog.. Like that'll be the day. Anyways, good design, especially the windshield! I thought about doing something like that for my 'Hog, but I figured just to do it the Lego way. Suspension is cool too, and you're right about not having the right sand green pieces (I had to stretch it.) ~J
