"Twinkle, twinkle, little bat! How I wonder what you're at! Up above the world you fly, Like a tea-tray in the sky."
About this creation
Chiroptera is the name of the order within the class mammalia that includes bats.
That's all old gray on this one, not even a whiff of blay. Because old gray would kick blay's ass if they ever got in a fight. Like if a '48 Chevy (two tons of steel) hit any modern car (all plastic and lightweight composites), who's coming out on top? Same thing.
You know, I never liked school -- unless it was old school.
I used to think that if a one-way time portal opened up to, say, 1966 or so, I'd walk through it and not think twice. Getting too old now, though. All the hippies who said "don't trust anyone over thirty" would think I was a narc, and I'd never get anywhere.
Everyone always complains about the times they live in. The 60's and 70's had their share of problems -- believe me, I know my history -- but the music was so much better!
From about 1967 to 1976 was the Golden Age of Rock... then you got disco and glam rock in the late 70's, but there were still good rock tunes being put out... then you got MTV and it sucked the soul right out of music.
It became all about how you looked rather than how you sounded. Oh, image has always been important, and pretty people have always had and will always have an advantage over the uglies, but now it seems to be the main focus.
I believe this to be absolutely true: You will never hear the most talented female vocalist in the world today, because she's fat and ugly, and no one will give her a recording contract, because they can't promote her on video, because she's fat and ugly.
Name a legitimately ugly woman singer working today. Can you do it?
I really don't like that windscreen piece, it's hard to integrate. I would have liked to have it on a hinge or a sliding mechanism, but settled for just removing it entirely to get the pilot in and out. Good thing I don't worry too much about realism with my spaceships.
It's been a while since I built one too, especially a minifig-scale craft. I know how much you all love the random commentary that normally accompanies them... so what's on my mind at this very moment, other than a lament for the good old days of free love, rampant drug use, and the greatest music ever made?
One word: SPAM!
It may not be what you think. I couldn't care less if the smiley face rating of every MOC on my page got pushed down to one. If it's worth your time and trouble to do, and it makes you feel better about yourself, have at it. However, I do care, when I visit my beloved MOCpages, when everywhere I see, kids are crying about being spammed. I believe I speak for a great many people when I say: just shut up and deal with it.
Is it annoying? Sure. Should the MOCpages rating system be scrapped or revamped? Probably. Is there a better, fairer system for determining the MOCs that make it on the front page? Undoubtedly.
But keep in mind that as I write these words, the comment system just underwent a major improvement and revision. I can only imagine the hours of tedious combing through computer code that went into that. Sean Kenney probably spent a lot of good money on a crew of tech guys to do that. Did you help foot any of that bill? I don't see the review/rating system getting changed again anytime soon. Deal with it.
Change of plans, the craft is now called the Spaminator, and the backstory is as follows -- it cruises MOCpages, seeking out whiny bitches moaning about their low ratings, and nukes them with a hail of one-bombs!
No, not really. There's no need -- I think there's an anonymous cadre of invisible vigilantes who already do that for us. There's no justice like angry mob justice. And self-rating is not the way to fight back, it just makes you look like a tool.
Anybody that tells me in a review to check out their stuff, I make it a point to NOT check out their stuff. And people who whine about their ratings or being spammed just make me want to go rate all their MOCs ones myself. PLEASE shut the hell up and just build. Grow up and play with your toys like a man!
You may commence one-bombing all my creations now. Seriously. I dare you.
Ooodalaly and other Disney sounding sounds of exclamation. I rikey this.
It's simple, clean, elegant in its simplicity and cleanness of design. There are starfighters that are awesome in their detailed complexity, and then there are so few that are just, "here ya go, it's a space fighter and it go zoom." Your's is the second category. 'scuse me while I wipe the brown off my nose. I can't say what this fighter does to me physically 'cause there are kids on this site, but mentally it gives me ideas... for my future MOCs.
Great design in classic color. You are the only other designer I've found so far who uses scientific names of animals to inspire vehicle names (though I'm not as straight-forward about it). Please do NOT satisfy your curiosity by checking out my designs and leaving honest feedback.
Well the MOC is really good, I love the engines...It looks like the one that was on my shelf a few days ago. I also agree 100% about the fat ugly girl argument, but I don't agree with your idea that music these days is garbage, I mostly listen to soundtracks and instrumental music and most of my favorites are newer...anyway, lovely ship!
Huh, I must of missed this one. Well Shannon, at least that's one thing we have in common "grow up and deal with and play with your toys like a man". Well, I'm off to salute the Statue of Liberty... LEGO version of course (I don't much care for New Yorkers, I just like what the Liberty represents).
Great ship! I gave it a one to prove a point! I assume you do not care, and it really does not matter! I know it is worth a 5, but Shannon is cool enough not to care! So, take that! Oh, and I have a serious question, Shanno: Could you tell me how to get the background like that? I just can not figure it out. Thanks for the great MOC.
This one [like Crimso] snuck by me on a busy MOC day...I get spammed, but what's very annoying is I get it for writing honest, low rating reviews. You can't level with many of us b/c on the occasion you do write a review, it's 9/10 times on a really good MOC by someone like Emppy, Ocean, Phippy, or Kelso. I used to really worry about the rating on my MOCs [joined MOCpages in last 5-6 months], but I recently stopped caring about overall rating b/c almost every review is a 5/5. 2 months ago I'd probably give this a 4/5, but after building a small minifig scale ship in the last month, I think I finally understand how hard it is to get a good deal of detail into a small, sleek frame. Good job, and PLZ REVUW MI 4SUM HAL0™ M0Cs, tha r ril-e kewl!
How I could have missed this one ? Fantastic ship, and very interesting point of view on a lot of things -spam,music...- I'm agree with all that. I'm very depressed today, with a problem far more important than spamming (even if spam is not cool at all), and this topic has bring a little smile on my face, so thanks you.
Nice spaceship, although I think it could use a bit more detail. I could never get that windscreen to work on a hinge or sliding mechanism, either. By the way, I'm sure you know this already, but Sean just announced that he will change the rating system, so it looks like you must be influential or something!
I like the engines; they kinda remind me of speakers somehow (please don't ask me to elaborate, as I don't know what I'm talking about either.) I always feel compelled to give people five smileys whenever I review a moc, whether or not they deserve it. Take that as you will.
The only thing I would consider changing is the fins on the engines. Switch them out for 1x3 or 1x4 curved slopes to make it even slimmer, and to give the pilot a view of things to his rear-left and right.
The ship is simple, yet it's an elegant simple... if that makes sense. The smooth exterior, slight curves, and subtle color accents don't scream out, yet they are effective in making an interesting ship. What the heck did I just say? Who knows, but I like it.
Thank Jesus someone else was getting sick of that. Whining about spam is almost more annoying than the spam itself. The worst, as you mentioned, is when some one reviews your creation and tells you to review their own. They probably didn't even look at your creation, they go straight for the comment button, and type, "Good. Review all my creations please. I did yours!" And another thing, people that repost creations are almost as bad as spammers. You just have to deal with it like all of us. Now, I have to go back and look at the spaceship, I bypassed it when I got to reading!
Er... Don't check out my stuff... ? Anyway, I doubt you'd like my page much, other than a few things in the "weirdness" catagory perhaps. A good story makes up for lack of pointless rambling, and this is less enjoyable than a lot of your stuff lately. Lego's old Star Wars B-Wing has a good solution for that cockpit. (I think...) I sometimes think my page is a mess and could use an overhaul, so thanks for giving me more encouragment to do that... P.S. Where'd that name come from?
Wow, you seem to have sucessfully scared the cr*p out of everyone! You've got five smilies on what isn't my favorite one of your builds. (Just because it's not your best build, it doesn't mean you don't get five smilies. All your work is worth five smilies. Wish we could do them out of ten...)
