Fabercraft Whippet mkIII light battle mech
A lightning-quick ground unit for when it absolutely has to get done NOW.
About this creation
You can now read a story featuring the Doberman mech at Abandoned Towers.

A younger addition to the ranks of the T.U. Mechanized Infantry, the Whippet line has only been in active use for just shy of a century. Built for speed, this versatile little mech has filled many roles on the modern battlefield.

In its primary capacity as a quick, quiet, lightly-armed unit, the Whippet is ideal for patrol, point-guard, scouting and infiltration/extraction missions, especially when equipped with a Recon backpack. Equipped with a dual artillery mount, this unit can provide astounding, highly-mobile artillery support, bringing heavy bombardment into the category of "sneak attack."

Included Features:

  • Upper turret with 2 5cm machine cannons (soft-slaved to TacNet)

  • Chin turret with 2 light pulse lasers and 1 10cm machine cannon

  • Heavy thrusters on feet, calves and back provide prolonged, high-speed hover capability.

  • Advanced quiet sensory equipment

Carrying Capacity:

  • 1 dorsal hard-point for a pair of NERDs

  • 2 Vampire Bat droids

  • 1 backpack

Nose-on, in hovering posture.

Le Bum

Having neared its target zone, the Whippet will cease hovering to reduce signal emissions. A skilled pilot can stalk almost silently in a Whippet.

Another upskirt, highlighting the primary lift thrusters.

To accommodate a FaberCraft standard backpack unit, the Whippet changes configuration. The engines swing out and down, and the backpack mount swings up and locks into place.

Equipped with an Expanded Recon backpack unit (mkII)

The added thrusters of the recon pack increase hover-sprint speed by over 20%

Up and about, with all the recon pack's gizmometers and whatsits deployed.

If quiet recon isn't the order of the day, the Whippet can also carry the dual-mount artillery backpack, with either the LRB7 Howitzers or Banshee missile-pods (shown are mks II and III, respectively)

**UPDATE**
Here's a new photo with a modification: a pair of side-mounted TacNet anti-ballistic lasers, for swatting enemy artillery out of the sky. A Vamp droid is also visible chillin' out on the Whippet's leg.

Wow! If that's a light mech, I'd hate to see your version of a heavy mech! Not bad! Did you take the name from the WWI English tank?
