The characters of Star
Wars: Knights of the Old Republic in LEGO minifig form.
Posted 7/15/2004.

This is my representation of the main character from KotOR1. Your
main character might be completely different than mine, of course. Mine
is Justin Arkanian, based on the main character of my Star Wars Fan
Fiction. He's a male human Scoundrel (by far the coolest class)
dual-classed to a Jedi Guardian once he gets his two red lightsabers.
Red crystals can be obtained by smashing the Kinrath eggs in the crystal
caves on Dantooine. The red robes my sig fig here is wearing can be
obtained by convincing Juhani to join your team. She's wearing them when
she joins, and I just stole them from her. Note that even though I chose
red lightsabers and red robes, I actually still played a good
character... although not strictly all-good... more "chaotic good."
Thankfully you can do that!

This is Bastila Shan, practically the "secondary main character" of
KotOR, and the romance interest for male characters. She's the Jedi
replacement for Lady Aribeth de Tylmerande from BioWare's previous game,
Neverwinter Nights. Oops, did I just say that? Visit my
Baldur's Gate minifigs page for my LEGO
of Aribeth. Anyway, just like Aribeth, Bastila is a preachy Lawful Good
jerk who, despite her goody-two-shoes-ness, somehow is convinced to turn
to the Dark Side and you have to either save her or slay her, depending
on how convincing you are. I, of course, spared both Aribeth and Bastila.
I'm pretty merciless with my justice/vengeance most of the time, but I
have a weak spot for the ladies.

If you're female, you're stuck with Carth Onasi here as your romance
interest (although I've heard you can, erm, hook up with Juhani late in
the game if you're into that sort of thing). Carth is your generic
Lawful Good soldier type who just happens to dual-wield pistols for some
reason (perhaps the only cool thing about him). Sorry for again making
use of the overused Qui-Gon Jinn head that I seem to use on all my
creations. Why did I give my minifig orange pants, you ask? Because I
can.

Mission Vao is the Twi'lek scoundrel you meat on Taris. She's young
and naive, but actually quite intelligent and a very useful character to
keep around. At first I couldn't stand her, but I actually became rather
fond of her as the game progressed. And she's actually better-looking
than most of the female characters in the sequel, KotOR2. Go figure.
Anyway, here's my fig. Sorry for using the Bib Fortuna head-tails piece,
but I was too lazy to do anything else. I think it looks fine myself,
but some people complain... They always do.

Zaalbar is the boring Wookiee character that Mission is friends with.
He can join your party and is a pretty darn tough fighter, but has very
little personality except on the Kashyyyk levels...

Canderous Ordo here is easily one of my favorite characters in all of
KotOR. He's a Mandalorian soldier turned mercenary, an expert at either
guns or melee, and with quite an attitude to match. Some people have
voiced complaints about the head I chose to use for him, since they say
it's supposed to be a beard. Well, somehow I've always thought of it as
grey stubble instead of a beard. Maybe I'm just crazy. This is, by the
way, the first time I've ever used that annoying spikey LEGO hairpiece
to a satisfying effect...

T3-M4, the generic astromech droid! He's kind of an odd little
fellow, looking somewhat like a blend of Pit Droid and R2 Unit. His
personality is pretty much R2-D2 all over again.

And here, of course, is everyone's favorite KotOR character: the
assassin/protocol droid, HK-47. Much like Minsc is the most easily
recognized character from the Baldur's Gate series, HK-47 is the
signature character from KotOR. HK-47 (whose name sounds suspiciously
like a combination of certain German and Russian assault rifles) is a
loyal droid who will follow his master's orders perfectly... sometimes
too perfectly, as he tends to leave lots of dead masters in his wake as
a result of his "missions." But that's okay, because he loves to kill
people, especially humans, whom he calls "meatbags," since they have "so
many squishy parts." HK is easily the coolest droid character in
anything, ever. Some people don't like the strange way I built him, but
I think it turned out pretty good myself. You can see an improved
version of it in the KOTOR2 section.

I have three favorite characters in KotOR: HK-47, Canderous Ordo,
and... Jolee Bindo. Jolee is easily one of the best characters in the
game. First of all, he's extremely useful, since he's an expert with the
Force. Secondly, he's a bit of a renegade, who left the Jedi Order and
now lives as a hermit. Since he's more neutral than good, he can use
either Dark or Light powers, and he questions many of the Jedi teachings
with a wry, sarcastic wit that makes him one of the funniest characters
in the game. In other words, he's awesome. In fact, he's possibly my
favorite character in the whole game...
Yes, I made the minifig yellow. I ALMOST paused to consider making a
brown minifig for once, but two things stopped me. First, I had already
sworn I wouldn't do skin tone minifigs, and I prefer to stick to my
word. Second, it wouldn't have looked right on a brown torso. So there
you have it.

Juhani is a freakish cat-person-thing that can join your party on
Dantooine... or, if you like, you can just kill her. I never really
liked her that much, myself. With her freaky hair, she reminds me quite
a bit of Aurra Sing, and I HATE Aurra Sing. So anyway, here's a generic
and uninteresting minifig of her. Meh.

A Sith Trooper. I've never
really liked the design of their armor much, but at least it has a
helmet (something the KOTOR series needs is helmets for your
character), which is a good reason to keep it as long as possible in
KOTOR 1. You can do so by equipping it on Carth and then booting him
out of your party when you talk to the guy who supposedly takes the
armor away from you. Carth will still be wearing it afterward.

A Republic soldier. I actually made this fig and the Sith Trooper later
than the rest of the figs here; they were made more around the time of my
KOTOR2 minifigs. Still, I'm grouping them with the rest anyway. This fig
here is based on Trask, a party member in the game who only stays in your
party through the tutorial level, before meeting his final fate at the
hands of Malak's apprentice, Darth Bandon.

The main villain of the game is Darth Malak, a rather silly Sith Lord
who is continually breaking the 100 Things You Should Not Do As An Evil
Overlord. In other words, he frequently laughs evilly, kills his
followers at random, destroys entire planets, tortures people, and makes
long speeches before fighting instead of just killing people when
they're at his mercy. He's also missing his mouth. Besides this, he's
really an extremely cliché character and I found him one of the more
dislikeable things about the game.

In Baldur's Gate II, everyone seems to be able to just disappear and
reappear anywhere using the Shadow Door spell, which they apparently can
use whenever they want, infinite times per day. In KotOR, enemy
characters who wish to engage you in a one-on-one duel can just stun
your allies with a wave of their hand, and they stay stunned until the
fight is over. Just how you are immune to this yourself is never
explained.

Darth Malak's generic apprentice guy is Darth Bandon, one of the
game's bosses that you face at a certain point in the progression of the
storyline. He looks like a human motor-biker version of Darth Maul.

This wacky little guy is Calo Nord, an oddly short bounty hunter with
a temper that's even shorter than he is. He gets an awesome introductory
sequence and eventually becomes another of the game's bosses that you
will have to face. I actually think he's one of my best custom minifigs.

Calo isn't really all that easy, but since I used one of those crazy
two-sided movie-maker heads for him, I just had to take this picture...

Admiral Saul Karath here is an old commander of Carth Onasi, who
turned to the Dark Side and joined the Sith, even leading them to
bombard his own homeworld. Carth hates him, but naturally has to have a
long conversation with him at the end...

In this conversation, Admiral Karath reveals to you for the first
time the biggest plot-twist in the game (if you hadn't already figured
it out like I did... or at least I suspected it): your character is
actually...

Darth Revan! Revan is by far a cooler
villain than Malak, something that's clear every time we see him in a
cutscene. The fact that he (or she) is actually YOU only makes it even
more awesome.

This was actually my original Darth Revan minifig, from 7/15/2004. I
quickly decided he needed improvement...

This new version, first posted
5/31/2005, uses new Dark Red decals I made after the PC version of KotOR
finally came out (and I bought it immediately, of course). The most
accurate LEGO color for Darth Revan's armor is actually sand-red, but
since I don't have minifig pieces in that color and since I prefer
dark-red, well... there you go.

FINISH HIM!
