heavily cutsomized tuned-up version of the Supercar model 8880
About this creation
UPDATE :
I decided to revert this model back to the original a while ago, as I needed the extra parts to make other models. Just for fun, here are some photos after it was rebuilt to stock - every part in that huge pile you see around the car was on the modified version; another photo shows the complex hydraulic system taken from the car, and the last the interior of the original to compare with the business of my modified version.
Built in around 2006/2007, this is the first big model I've made that I've kept any record of (when I was younger I made various big star wars spaceships from video games... but looking back they're probably rubbish now).
I found the supercar model 8880 at a flea market for 10 euros and jumped at it - not only because it was a bargain; but since I was a very tiny kid I'd been staring at all the paper lego adverts that come with models just dreaming of having it ...
So, I built it. It was cool - working gearbox, V8 engine, 4 wheel drive and independant suspension. Great !
But, then I wanted more. It started by my dislike of the fact that it looked too much like a frame; so I started building panels around it. Being more into car customizing at the time I then went on to give it fast and furious style bumpers and side skirts; then a bigger spoiler, and a roof scoop. I completely changed the back lights; aded two huge exhausts, and then started messing round on the mechanical side...
On the inside of the car; I replaced the engins cylinders and pistons with the clear/yellow ones cuz I though they looked cool; but that doesn't do anything ; the real big change was that I somehow managed to install an air tank; and a helluva lot of pneumatics into it (I remember just how hard it was to cram it all in...)
The pneumatics do the following :
-2 open and close the boot; by a switch located just behind the gearstick
-one small one opens the bonnet by a switch on the egde of the windscreen/bonnet
-two open (1 on each side) some vertical lambo-style doors I fitted; by switches in the side skirts
- on an indiviual pneumatic system, without air tank; there are some slightly over the top and completely useless pneumatics that will lift up either the front or the back of the car; by switches placed next to the egde of the doors. Pimped out west coast lowrider hydraulics, that crazy type stuff...
Just to give an idea on how much this as been changed; this model now weighs more than twice as much as the original !
And (even though it's not lego) , with difficulty; I managed to fit a real working radio with a speaker in the cockpit - the radio at the edge of the windscreen; the speaker behind the seats.
I was planning on adding neons underneath; but I sort of messed them up and they got grilled on the mains; so thought better not mess with that any more...
It wasn't all done at once; most was, but various slight changes have been made over time. I think it's at it's final stage though now; I have no plans to change it further. (maybe because even a "slight" change often involves breaking down half the car then rebuilding it again afterwards...

P.S. If you are looking to buy lego for your creations, I would like to recommend the following Bricklink lego shop ; "About Town, Castle & Train" ( http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=stacey_love )
I personally know the shopholders, and they are very nice, devoted people. They are currently sponsoring 100% of my 1/3 Lamborghini project, providing all of the parts; and have made various other donations to other models I have made.
The store has a wide selection of parts (over 600,000!), at good prices, and offer an exceptional, fast service (no tax or dodgy exchange rates, next day postage, etc). you won't be disappointed !

Hey Dan, I sort of changed my mind about this being entered in my "Stock to Tuner" contest. At first I though it was okay, but then I thought of it like this: if you just can't enter, that's totally fine. I just invited everyone in MC and WCT, I doubt even a quarter of them will join. So if entering an entry that falls into the guidelines just isn't in you ability right now, then that's okay. Nothing personal, just wanted to keep things standardized. Thanks for understanding, and beautiful tune-job here :) -Dax |
