The NASA's Pathfinder lander that landed on Mars in 1997.
About this creation
This is my model of the Pathfinder land which landed on Mars in 1997. It deposited the Sojourner rover to the surface.
The hardest part were the petals. I was working on something else and by accident put two 6 x 12 wings together. I thought "hey. this looks like the solar things from Pathfinder". The difficult part was the fact that the three of the are evenly spaced, and that isn't very compatible with most legos. So I kinda cheated a little.
The rest was pretty easy. I would like to thank "axelp" (http://home.t-online.de/home/axel.pq/lego/) for basic shape of my mini sojourner. (I have a 1:3 scale sojourner model it's on this site).
I just wish I had some tiny airbags to put underneath so I could make the ramps that sojourner went down. (unfortunately, lego doesn't make those)
pathfinder on "mars". mars is the lid of a bootbox with a layer of sand and some of the most mars-like rocks I could find. since I didn't attach the retracted airbags on my model, I just used a small plastic bag flattened with the printing down.
