Liquid ABS Tank Car by the Barile Tank Co. (see decal) using castle walls and triangular lattice space elements.
About this creation
This tank car was originally inspired by Brian Williams' (www.royal-train.com) White Mobil tank car,
by the castle
corners and multi-facetted slopes (3 x 3 x 2, part #s 2463
& 2464) to
cap the ends. The triangular
lattice elements (8 x 6 x 2/3, part #30036)
were initially suggested by Ben Fleskes, but through a friendly
misunderstanding I put them together in the hour-glass shape where Ben had them oriented the other way.
I really love the look of the hourglass chesses arrangement.
The SNOT techniques involved in this model are very compartmentalized, even
so, the beauty of the LEGO® system geometry allows for very robust
connections between the tank and the chesses and the top railing system.
The Decals are created on a thermal wax printer onto clear blank decal paper.
I purchased the clear blank decal material from the "Bare
Metal Foil Company". Dealing with them has been somewhat spotty, but
reasonable. The printing of decals and their fragile nature takes a bit getting
I have at least
eight of these built and love to run them together. They're light weight and use
the smallest configuration bogies that have very low rolling resistance. One of
my suggestions w.r.t. building rolling stock is, if you're gonna
build one, you gotta build at least two, and preferably more. Having multiple
copies of a MOC really helps legitimizes a design.
