SpyBlade & SpyDuster
Spybot controlled sumo robot.
About this creation
SpyBlade was my first atempt to build a Spybot controlled sumo robot. It was using it's built-in motors to flip a couple of electric switches which were connecting power from a small 9V battery box to 2 geared technic motors. It also had a dual feeler setup that would each press the built-in touch sensor when the sumo ring's edge was detected.
The coolest part of this robot was it's ability to detect the enemy by using the remote control mounted below the spybot set up in beacon mode. In this mode, the remote is emmiting an IR signal that if it bounced back from an object, it could be detected by the spybot. Left-right corrections could be made to center the robot on the enemy and 2 of the zones could be used: Anywhere and There.
The only problem with this setup was that it would not react fast enough to the edge detection and it was committing suicide.

SpyDuster is a different version, which is using a better dual feeler setup and it is using the RC motors. The spybot controller is mounted vertical so it can use its light sensor for edge detection backup. Because of the power needed by the RC motors I had to take off the thermal protection from the (big) battery box and unfortunately that was illegal for the contest I was going to. So I had to change the RC motors with geared technic motors...

I have to say that it was pretty difficult to buil this robot with the 2lb weigh limit constraints. However, after replacing the RC motors, SpyDuster was weighing low, so I think I could have used 2 more motors or the remote controller for enemy detection.

Maybe next version...
