No, I actually used one of the older style motors with a small gear on the motor then a big gear, then a small gear that drives the doors. Here is a link to a picture of it http://www.flickr.com/photos/23575410@N05/3668956684/ It doesn't show the motor but you can see the big gear and drive path.

The doors took 3 to 4 revisions to try to get them to open and close together at a slow speed. The whole layout has about 55,000 to 60,000 pieces. If you look through all the pictures I think there is an interior view of the door during the building process. Thanks for the interest.
